McLawhorn-Carraway eliminated in 2-A tennis semifinals

CARY -- Mideast Regional doubles champions Elizabeth McLawhorn-Lauren Carraway from Greene Central tumbled in the semifinal round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A women's tennis championships.
McLawhorn-Carraway defeated South Columbus' Shay Grainger-Morgan Dameron 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round. The Rams' tandem rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over East Lincoln's Anne and Claire Rinaldo.
Salisbury stopped Greene Central in the semifinals.
The Rams' other duo of Samantha Taylor-Abby Sugg picked up a first-round win over Edenton Holmes' Caroline Small-Isabelle Boehling. They lost to Salisbury's Shea Cornadoll-Joy Loeblein in the quarterfinals.
Greene Central returns to action Tuesday in the NCHSAA dual-team playoffs. The No. 3-ranked Rams entertain No. 2-ranked Cardinal Gibbons at the Snow Hill Tennis Complex. First serve is 4 p.m.
Class 3-A
BURLINGTON -- Eastern Wayne's twosome of Lindsey Frederick-Mollie Musgrave reached the quarterfinals of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A women's tennis championships on Friday.
Frederick-Musgrave eliminated Southern Alamance's Jessica Brown-Morgan Teague 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in the first round. But the Warrior duo endured a straight-set loss to T.C. Roberson's Erin Williams-Elle Klein.
On the singles' scene, Southern Wayne senior Tara Hirsch dropped a first-round match to Burlington Williams' Carolyn Kernodle.
Eastern Wayne continues defense of its NCHSAA dual-team eastern regional title Tuesday against county archrival Charles B. Aycock. The No. 10-ranked Warriors have won five straight meetings in the series.
