BETHEL -- Greene Central jumped out to an early advantage, but the Rams could not keep the momentum and fell to North Pitt 37-6 in their Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opener on Friday evening.
Brandon Suit found T.J. McPhail for a 59-yard scoring strike in the game's opening minutes, but North Pitt's defense kept Greene Central from finding the end zone.
Turnovers doomed the Rams in the final three quarters. The Panthers forced three fumbles and picked off two passes.
"Turnovers played a part, but we forced them into some turnovers, too," said Rams head coach Ken Grantham. "Right now, the biggest problem is that we are still doing things to hurt ourselves.
"We got some guys one-on-one and we didn't make the plays."
Despite the final score, the Rams dominated the stats.
Greene Central rushed for 172 yards to just 85 for North Pitt. The Rams also held an 83-45 advantage in passing yards.
"It's pretty amazing. We had more total offense, fewer penalties and more time of possession, but we just couldn't make the big play when we needed it," said Grantham. "We had some opportunities and just never capitalized."
Reggie Sanders paced the Greene Central ground game with 137 yards on 27 carries. Fullback Aaron Harper added 44 yards on 12 totes.
The Rams (2-5 overall, 0-1 EPC) entertain Goldsboro next week, while the Panthers (3-4) travel to Farmville Central.
