Rosewood's Nicky Britt emerged the top runner during a Carolina 1-A Conference cross country meet contested on the Eagles' course.

Britt recorded a time of 19 minutes, 45 seconds during the 3.1-mile trek.

Spring Creek's Corey Howell claimed second in 20:04, followed by Princeton's Ethan Anderson (20:09) and Midway's Larry Pitts (20:23). Princeton's Adam Peedin (20:24) rounded out the top five.

The Gators edged the Dawgs 23-33 in team competition. North Johnston was a distant third with 77 points. Neither Rosewood nor North Duplin had enough competitors for a team score.

Spring Creek grabbed four spots in the bottom 10, led by Drew Pierce and Andrew Swedenburg.

On the girls' side, Olivia Booker finished second in 23:15 and helped Princeton turn back county archrival North Johnston 19-37.

Fellow Bulldogs Maegan Hewitt (24:18), Hattie Dougherty (24:34) and Jill Whitley (25:14) each recorded a top-five time.

Lane Tree LGA

Betty Jean Gurley claimed game-of-the-week and low net honors during tournament play at Lane Tree Golf Course.

Sherry Minner took low putts.

In Eastern League play at Brook Valley CC in Greenville, Sally Pope won low putts in first flight. Eileen Henderson had first low net in fourth flight, while Bunkie Parker grabbed low putts in fourth flight.

Youth sports

* Soccer: Brooke Vernatt scored her first goal of the season as the Eureka Rage lost to the Rosewood Blitz. The Rage fell to 3-2-1 overall.
