SWAN QUARTER -- Princeton head coach Russell Williamson informed his players their trip to Mattamuskeet on Friday evening was nothing but a business trip.
The Bulldogs heeded Williamson's word.
Princeton allowed a season-low eight yards of total offense and cruised to a 32-6, non-conference victory.
Jeremy Carmichael's 3-yard touchdown run and Mike Moss' 43-yard punt return for a score put the Dawgs on top 13-0 after one quarter.
Carmichael added a 28-yard rushing touchdown before halftime and Kwame Corprew's 3-yard score in the third quarter extended the lead to 26-0. The Bulldogs (2-4) gained 204 yards on 34 carries.
"We controlled the ball on offense," said Williamson. "We played well on defense and I told our kids we were going down there to do a job and get a win. I told our kids this wasn't a pleasure trip."
Dylan Myers' 2-yard touchdown pass to Matt Williamson capped Princeton's scoring in the fourth quarter. After losing on a late kickoff return a week ago while battling the emotions of a tragic car accident that shook the school recently, Williamson was pleased with his team's resiliency in the face of a long trip.
"We haven't won many games in the last few years," said Williamson. "I can't say enough about how hard our kids play. They work hard at what they're doing. We can't be more happy with their effort."
The injury-riddled Dawgs travel to Spring Creek next Friday in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference opener for both teams. The Gators lead the all-time series 6-1.
