Keri Adams allowed just two earned runs on two hits as Eastern Wayne cruised past county rival Spring Creek 12-5 on Monday afternoon.

Adams aided her cause with a base hit.

Morgan Smith, Casey Mitchell and Brianna Williams scored two runs apiece in the win.

Eastern Wayne (2-2 overall) visits Goldsboro on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.

Dawgs rebound

PRINCETON -- After enduring a non-conference shutout Saturday against Wayne Christian, Princeton quickly got on the board Monday afternoon against county rival Clayton.

The Dogs scored three first-inning runs en route to a 9-2 win.

Tylan George batted 2-for-2 and walked twice. Danielle Mitchell and lead-off batter Brittany Baker supplied two hits apiece.

Winning pitcher April Keene worked four innings, giving up four hits and five walks. The Comets plated two earned runs.

Princeton improved to 2-1 overall.

Soccer

Hawks top Devils

Sasha Holeman scored twice as North Lenoir routed county archrival South Lenoir 6-1 on Monday evening.

Jordan Hudson, Gaby Hill, Lindsey Walton and Lindsey Fulton tallied one goal apiece for the Hawks.

North Lenoir (3-1 overall) entertains C.B. Aycock at 7 p.m. today.

Tennis

Aycock triumphs

ROCKY MOUNT -- C.B. Aycock picked up five singles points and upended state-ranked Rocky Mount 7-2 on Monday afternoon at Sunset Park.

Sophomore Addison Westbrook helped the Golden Falcons' cause with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 comeback at No. 2 singles.

In doubles, the tandems of Blake Vail-Dylan Quinn and Ben Nichols-Ben Evans each collected a point.

C.B. Aycock (1-0 overall) travels to Clayton today.

Rams post shutout

Greene Central swepts the singles and doubles matches, and blitzed South Central 9-0 on Monday afternoon.

The Rams (2-0 overall) got singles wins from Eric Simmons, James Kersey, Trey Cash, Colby Chase, Andrew Harrison and Jason Perry. The same six players also accounted for three doubles victories.

"The conditions today made play look pretty sloppy, but after a few games we settled in and got things under control," said Rams head coach Brad Sauls. "I thought James (Kersey) did a great job of handling the wind. He came up with some big shots, especially in the last set of his singles match, and his doubles play was also solid."

Warriors fall

WILMINGTON -- Drew Jackson emerged the lone singles winner during Eastern Wayne's 7-2, non-conference loss Monday afternoon against E.A. Laney.

The Warriors' No. 2 doubles of Chris Knobling-Eric Barnes pulled out a 9-8 (4) victory.

Eastern Wayne (0-2 overall) entertains New Bern on Wednesday.

Golf

Ham wins meet

Mount Olive College signee Kyle Ham earned medalist honors with a 72 during Eastern Wayne's non-conference meet against perennial power Wilson Fike on Monday afternoon.

However, four Demon golfers recorded 18-hole rounds in the 70s and walked away with a 305-313 victory on the Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course links. Bailey Rose emerged Fike's low scorer with a 74.

Eastern Wayne returns to action Monday for an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference match at Southern Wayne CC.
