MOC - Another crucial league test awaits

MOUNT OLIVE -- Key Conference Carolinas contests continue to come fast and furious for the Mount Olive College men's basketball team.

After recording back-to-back victories over defending Division II national champ Barton and in-state foe Queens, the conference-leading Trojans travel to Pfeiffer University today.

Mount Olive, ranked No. 24 in the latest NABC top 25 poll, carries a nine-game win streak to Meisenheimer. The Trojans (14-3 overall) won the previous meeting 101-82 in late November, but trail in the series 18-9 since the 1997-98 season.

Pfeiffer (12-4) is tied with Queens for second place in the league at 8-2. The Falcons presented head coach Dave Davis with career win No. 300 on Saturday against St. Andrews.

Clingan surpassed the 300-win mark a year ago.

Kendrick Easley and Brandon Streeter average 17.6 and 15.5 points a game, respectively, for Mount Olive. Streeter is the top rebounder at 8.6 per outing. Justin Melton has handed out a team-high 67 assists.

Four players average double figures for the high-scoring Falcons, who produce 88.7 points per game. Clyde Chapman and Thomas Carr knock down 13 points apiece, while Robert McGriff averages 11.8. Logan Call is the next-highest scorer with 11.2.

Pfeiffer is 8-0 at home this season.

On the women's side, Mount Olive looks to continue its climb up the conference ladder. The Trojan women (10-8) are 8-3 in the league, while Pfeiffer (6-11) is 3-7.

Senior Lakeisha Monroe, a Division I transfer from Georgia State University, ranks second in the league in scoring at 15.3 ppg. Ashelle Athill, Domonique China, Allegra Shanee Purnell and Kalee Smith each tally nearly nine points a game for Pfeiffer.

The Falcons lead the all-time series 14-6 since 1998-99.
