PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock improved to 2-2 with a 50-37 win over Greene Central on Tuesday night.

Khendra Reid finished with 18 points for the Golden Falcons, and Kyle LaFlamme added 10. Jonathan Williams scored nine points, and David Gurganus had six.

Bobby Waters led the Rams with 12 points, and Ray Webb chipped in seven.

Aycock travels to Clayton on Thursday, while Greene Central hosts Wilson Fike on Friday.

Bulldogs prevail

WILSON -- Princeton held off the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf and earned a 51-45 victory on Tuesday evening.

Will Gainey led the Bulldogs with 14 points, and Chris Hinton had 10. Josh Barefoot tallied nine points and Benton Myers scored seven.

James Brown and Stephen Hall each had 14 points for the School for the Deaf.

Princeton visits Midway on Friday.

Eagles topple Bethel

Eric Williams scored a game-high 39 points to go with 18 rebounds to help lead Wayne Christian past visiting Bethel Christian 74-64 on Tuesday night.

Matt Davis had 16 points, three steals and two rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 3-2 overall. Shae Glaesman added six points, five blocks and five rebounds.

Jordan O'Neal scored 19 points for Bethel and Jacob Sutton finished with 17.

Wayne Christian begins Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play on Friday when it hosts Cape Fear Christian.

Saints open with loss

JACKSONVILLE -- Southern Wayne opened its season with a 61-57 loss at Jacksonville on Tuesday evening.

Jonathan Hart led the Saints with 12 points, and Kendrick Thompson added 11.

Damion Williams scored a team-high 15 points for Jacksonville, and Rashard Chivers had 14.

Southern Wayne (0-1) hosts the state's top-ranked squad New Hanover tonight.

Girls basketball

CBA victorious

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock improved to 1-3 with a 31-29 victory over Greene Central on Tuesday.

Chantel Gaines led the Golden Falcons with 17 points and pulled down five rebounds. Yolanda Pitt added seven points, five rebounds and three steals.

Shonice Pettaway had 22 points for the Rams.

Aycock travels to Clayton on Thursday, and Greene Central hosts Wilson Fike on Friday.

WCS triumphs

Wayne Christian overcame a slight 18-17 halftime deficit and eased past visiting Bethel Christian 47-33 on Tuesday night.

The Eagles outscored the Trojans 30-15 in the second half.

Hanna Kaler scored 22 points for Wayne Christian. Charity Wright finished with nine points.

The Eagles (3-2) will hosts Cape Fear Christian on Friday.

Eagles get first win

Wayne Christian defeated Bethel Christian 51-47 on Tuesday night.

Chase Taylor Johnson finished with a team-high 19 points for the Eagles. Chase King scored 14 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. Tyler Mooring had 10 points and five rebounds.

Wayne Christian (1-2) begins Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play on Friday when it hosts Cape Fear Christian.

Falcons outlast Rams

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock turned back Greene Central 51-41 on Tuesday night.

RaJohn Ormond had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Falcons (1-1). Matt Woodard finished with 13 points.

Kelsey Dickson led the Rams with seven points.

WCS earns win

Wayne Christian downed visiting Bethel Christian 32-17, improving to 2-1 overall.

Charity Wright scored 11 points for the Eagles, and Kayla Kennedy had eight.

EW escapes Demons

Eastern Wayne survived a scare from Wilson Fike 39-37 on Tuesday.

Cathy Benjamin and Maurriel Baker each scored 10 points for the Warriors (2-0).

Eastern Wayne hosts Jacksonville on Thursday.
