MOUNT OLIVE -- Alicia Mote led all players with 17 kills, while Joanie Werling recorded 45 assists and keyed a late second-game run as Mount Olive turned back Coker 30-20, 30-24, 27-30, 30-23 in a Conference Carolinas women's volleyball match.

Racey Bartley and Sam Mitchell added 14 kills apiece for the Trojans, who claimed their fifth consecutive win. Mitchell was named the Conference Carolinas player of the week for the second straight week.

Mount Olive (9-8 overall, 5-1 CC) broke away from an 8-8 tie as Mote sparked a 7-2 run with a pair of kills. The Trojans built the lead to double digits as Mote had seven kills in the first game.

Game two was tied 22-22, but after a Trojan side out, Werling served for the next six points to make the score 29-22. Werling was credited with her first ace when Coker was called for being out of rotation, then served an ace two points later.

The Trojans trailed by as many as five points early in the game.

Mount Olive led 18-15 in game three, but Coker (7-12, 4-4) battled back as Margaret Madison served the Cobras to a 23-19 lead. Two kills, a block and an ace by Bartley rallied the Trojans to a 27-27 tie.

Megan Haupt's kill on game point forced a fourth game.

Service runs by Kari Ham and Corie Skislak helped Mount Olive turn an early one-point advantage into an 11-6 lead in game four. Mitchell had five of her kills in the fourth game and the Trojans took their biggest lead at 26-16. Coker got as close as 27-21 and fought off two match points before Mount Olive closed out the win.

Mote came within one kill of matching her career high, which she reached in the Trojans' previous match. Mitchell extended her streak of consecutive matches in double figures in kills to 13. She also tallied 13 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Mallory Peavler added 23 digs for the Trojans, while Bartley finished with six blocks and two aces.

Mount Olive begins a seven-game road swing Saturday at Queens University. The Trojans visit in-state Pfeiffer on Sunday.
