Eastern Wayne netters continue perfect run in ECC play

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne picked up an 8-1 Eastern Carolina Conference 3-A win over Wilson Hunt on Tuesday.

Lindsey Frederick, Mollie Musgrave, Danielle Daniel, Elizabeth Borden and Emily Northington earned singles wins for the Warriors.

The tandems of Mollie and Cassie Musgrave, Daniel-Kelsi Yates and Borden-Northington had doubles victories for Eastern Wayne.

The visiting Warriors improved to 6-0 against ECC opposition and completed the regular-season sweep of Hunt.

KINSTON -- Charles B. Aycock dominated from start to finish in their Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference match on Tuesday, downing Kinston 9-0.

Kristen Prosser, Courtney Barnes, Emilee Quinn, Kristen Bennett, Jessica Davis and Mallory Strickland each had singles wins for the Golden Falcons.

C.B. Aycock picked up a 9-0, ECC win over Wilson Beddingfield on Monday.

Prosser, Barnes, Quinn, Davis, Strickland and Lauren Pierce each had singles wins for the Golden Falcons.

C.B. Aycock (10-5 overall, 6-1 ECC) entertains Wilson Hunt on Thursday.

SNOW HILL -- Led by strong singles play, Greene Central remained undefeated in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play with a 9-0 win over North Lenoir on Tuesday.

Ashley Grant, Elizabeth McLawhorn, Cally Hudson, Abby Sugg, Lauren Carraway and Samantha Taylor each earned singles wins for the Rams.

Greene Central is now 14-2 overall and 5-0 in the EPC. The Rams will visit North Pitt today. The Hawks fell to 3-6 overall and 1-6 in the EPC.

Gators topple Panthers

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek improved to 7-0 in Carolina/Super Six 1-A Conference play with a 6-3 victory over North Johnston on Tuesday.

Jamie Johnson, Mary Elizabeth West, Isabel Messelken, and Jessie Foley each had singles wins for the Gators.

The tandems of Johnson-West and Messelken-Lewis earned doubles wins for Spring Creek.

The Gators are now 7-3 overall and 7-0 in Carolina 1-A Conference play. Spring Creek will host Wallace-Rose Hill Today.

Eagles soar past Cape Fear

Wayne Christian cruised to a 9-0 Carolina Christian 1-A Conference victory over Caper Fear Academy on Tuesday at Herman Park.

Brooke Barfield, Laura Lee Hodson, Katie Fairchild, Cynthia Burroughs, Samantha Reeves and Reagan Hilton were singles winners for Wayne Christian.

The tandems of Barfield-Hodson, Fairchild-Burroughs and Reeves-Hinton were all victorious in doubles play for the Eagles.

Wayne Christian improved to 4-4 overall and 4-0 in Carolina Christian 1-A action.

Volleyball

Warriors prevail in ECC

Jordei Osby provided a team-high 12 kills and Carrie Adams added eight kills in Eastern Wayne's 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 victory over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Kinston.

Osby added three blocks and Adams collected 18 digs.

Anna Hajjar recorded a season-high 11 aces to go along with three kills and 18 digs. Alysa Artis contributed eight digs, while Regan Stoneburner served three aces and collected 17 digs.

Brianna Williams registered four aces and 18 digs. Brooke Newsome handed out 26 assists to go along with one kill, seven aces and 14 digs.

"We played well overall," said Warriors coach Bruce Burridge.

Eastern Wayne (12-0 overall, 5-0 ECC) travels to Jacksonville White Oak today and entertains county rival Southern Wayne on Thursday.

Hawks still perfect

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir remained unbeaten with a 25-6, 25-10, 25-11 win over Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opponent Greene Central on Tuesday.

Jordan Hudson led the Hawks offense with 28 assists. Kayla Sutton tallied 21 service points and five aces, and Marrisa Lanier had 13 kills. Conner Jordan chipped in five kills.

The Hawks improved to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the EPC. North Lenoir will continue conference play on Thursday when it travels to Farmville Central.

Conquerors fall on road

FAYETTEVILLE -- Faith Christian fell 25-15, 25-18, 25-22 to Cornerstone Christian in North Carolina Christian School Coastal Region 2-A Conference play on Tuesday.

Heather Crumpler tallied seven blocks for the Conquerors, and Brook Anderson added six blocks and four kills. Alyssa Hill had six kills, and Catlyn Flores netted six digs and two kills. Brittany Dill had four digs.

Faith Christian is now 6-5 overall and 6-4 in the Coastal Region 2-A Conference. The Conquerors travel to Berean Christian Academy in Fayetteville on Monday.

Faith Christian got five kills from Alyssa Hill to top Liberty Christian of Fayetteville 25-21, 25-10, 25-10 on Monday afternoon in a N.C. Christian Schools Athletic Association Coastal East division contest.

Kaitlyn Floars contributed five kills and four kills. Brooke Anderson tallied eight digs, three blocks and two kills for Faith. Renee Provencal added five assists and a service ace.

Gators turn back Rebels

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Behind a strong performance from Kristin Smith, Spring Creek defeated Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Duplin 25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 25-13 on Tuesday.

Smith finished with 15 kills, three aces, five digs and two blocks. Brooke Albertson had 11 assists, six kills and three aces. Tasha Whitfield added seven kills, five aces and one block. Ashley Barwick tallied seven assists and three aces.

Heather Hudson had six kills, four aces, four digs and three blocks for the Rebels. Sam Cates finished with eight kills, five assists, three aces and two digs. Felicia Lynch added seven assists, three digs and one ace.

The Gators improved to 9-2 overall and 3-2 in Carolina 1-A Conference play. Spring Creek will continue conference play when it hosts Princeton on Thursday. The Rebels are 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the Carolina 1-A Conference and will visit North Johnston on Thursday.

Soccer

Chargers go down

AHOSKIE -- League-leading and unbeaten Ridgecroft cruised past Wayne Country Day 3-0 in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference action Tuesday afternoon.

The Rams (13-0-1 overall) improved to 5-0-1 in the CPIC and have outscored the opposition 73-4 this season. Ridgecroft is ranked No. 8 among the state's 1-A teams.

"We certainly have the talent to beat them, but it's a matter of organization and chemistry at this point," said WCDS head coach Baron Heinemann.

Chargers goalie Ryan Ford collected seven saves.

Wayne Country Day (6-5-1) dropped to 2-3-1 in conference play and returns home Friday against CPIC newcomer Oakwood Academy. Match time is 4 p.m.

Late goal does in Saints

KINSTON -- Southern Wayne came up just short in its bid for an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference win in a 2-1 loss to Kinston on Tuesday night.

The Saints and Vikings were all tied up at 1-1 at halftime, but Mohammed Ali's second half goal lifted to Kinston to the victory.

The Vikings held a 14-11 advantage in shots on goal. Rosriwdo Molina had 10 saves for Southern Wayne.

The Saints are now 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the ECC, and will host North Lenoir today. Kinston improved to 2-3-4 overall and 1-0 in the ECC.

JV sports

* Volleyball -- Victoria Benton served five aces and pounded out five kills in C.B. Aycock's 25-13, 25-10 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A foe Southern Wayne. Cara Frederick supplied two aces and two kills. Tia Jackson (three kills) and Miranda Aycock (four aces) also contributed to the straight-set sweep. The Golden Falcons (7-4 overall) climbed to 4-1 in the ECC.

* Boys' soccer -- Eighth-grader Hil Tanner recorded four goals and Elliot Best added a single goal in Wayne Country Day's 5-1 conquest of Ridgecroft in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference play. The teams tied 1-1 in their previous meeting.

* Volleyball -- Amethyst McPhail, Katie May and Lani Fricks (five aces) emerged the top servers during Eastern Wayne's 25-17, 25-22 win over Kinston. The Warriors (2-8 overall) snapped a four-game losing skid in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.

* Volleyball -- Kendall Letchler had 16 service points in North Lenoir's 25-21, 25-9 Eastern Plains 2-A Conference win over Greene Central. Courtney Neal and Kristen Davenport each finished with four kills. The Hawks (12-0 overall) improved to 3-0 in the EPC.

* Volleyball -- North Duplin picked up a 25-20, 25-18 Carolina 1-A Conference win over Spring Creek on Tuesday. Angelica Favela had three aces, two assists, and two digs for the Rebels. Kailey Odom added three aces and one dig. Randi Oxendine had two assists and two kills for the Gators. North Duplin is now 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the Carolina 1-A Conference. Hollie Baker, Ashley Howell, Alicia Sodoma, Janielle Daniel, Nicole Kessler and Harlie Howard each had singles wins for the Golden Falcons. Aycock is 8-3 overall and will host Southern Wayne today.

Middle schools

* Volleyball -- Norwayne knocked off Dillard 25-3, 25-13, 25-7 on Tuesday. Ivey Hartzell led Norwayne with 19 service points. Courtnei Gilbert added 16 service points and Alaina Moore had eight. Kasheika Wallace had seven service points for Dillard and Cherisse White added four. Norwayne is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, and will travel to Broughton on Wednesday. Dillard fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
