North Duplin's Cox runs over Jones Senior

TRENTON -- Akeem Cox rushed for a career-high 260 yards and scored three touchdowns as North Duplin knocked off Jones Senior 28-12 on Friday evening.
Cox's touchdowns covered runs of 11, 55 and 2 yards. It was the highest, single-game rushing performance by any Rebel running back since Hugh Martin became head coach in 2006.
North Duplin (2-0 overall) amassed 329 yards of total offense, including 305 on the ground. James Stevens grinded out 45 yards on 10 carries, while Billy Mello contributed 27 yards on six attempts.
Senior quarterback Doug Lloyd completed two passes to Chris Graham for 24 yards.
The Rebel defense coerced Jones Senior into four turnovers.
North Duplin entertains Sampson Union next Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at H.E. Grubbs Field.
