WARSAW -- Spring Creek opened its Class 1-A Carolina/Super Six Conference schedule with a 9-0 shelling of James Kenan.

Mary Elizabeth West, Isabel Nesselken, Jamie Johnson, Rachel Lewis, Jamison Mossberg and Ivey Best each claimed a straight-set singles win. The same six combined for a sweep in doubles.

Spring Creek (1-1 overall) entertains state-ranked East Duplin today.

Fike blanks Aycock

WILSON -- Unbeaten and state-ranked Wilson Fike rolled past Charles B. Aycock 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Second-seeded Mallory Short snapped Courtney Barnes' 24-match win streak with a 6-2, 6-3 decision.

The Golden Falcons fell to 3-2 overall.

GC dominates SW

SNOW HILL -- Southern Wayne turned in a more-competitive effort, but Greene Central prevailed 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Top seeded Ashley Grant took a hard-fought match from the Saints' Tara Hirsch 3-6, 6-1 (10-8). Elizabeth McLawhorn, Cally Hudson, Abby Sugg, Lauren Carraway and Samantha Taylor also posted singles wins.

Fike upends CBA

WILSON -- C.B. Aycock outshot Wilson Fike 16-8 but was unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss on Wednesday.

David Gibbons got Fike on the board in the fourth minute with a blast from just inside the box, and the Golden Demons led 1-0 at the half. Tucker Brown added to Fike's lead in the 65th minute.

Kyle LaFlamme finished with four saves for Aycock.

The Golden Falcons (1-2-1 overall) visit North Lenoir on Sept. 4.

Ellison paces Hawks

LaGRANGE -- Jamie Ellison recorded the hat trick (three goals) as North Lenoir cruised past Rosewood 5-1 at Bullock Field.

Ellison scored in the 11th, 17th and 25th minutes.

Ethan Schlif converted a corner kick from Thomas Faulkner (two assists) in the 33rd minute. C.C. Croom finished off the first-half offensive surge with a goal one minute later.

Cameron Lowe collected Rosewood's lone goal.

Cardinals blank EW

UNC Wilmington signee Adam Cunningham accounted for two goals and assisted on another goal as state-ranked Jacksonville defeated Eastern Wayne 4-0 at Little Big Horn.

Jimmy Johnson and Matt Cunningham also scored for the Cardinals, the 2006 Class 3-A state runner-up. Jacksonville, ranked No. 4 in the latest N.C. Soccer Coaches Association poll, departed 3-1 overall.

Eastern Wayne (1-3-0 overall) is the guest of North Lenoir on Sept. 10.

Volleyball

Hawks dupe Devils

LaGRANGE -- Marissa Lanier and Connor Jordan pounded out nine kills apiece as unbeaten North Lenoir hammered county archrival South Lenoir 25-14, 25-20, 25-20 on Wednesday evening.

Kayla Sutton added four kills and 18 points on serve.

Jordan Hudson dished out 29 assists for the Hawks, who climbed to 4-0 overall and travel to Charles B. Aycock today.

GC dealt defeat

SNOW HILL -- Megan Lovett tallied 11 kills in Greene Central's 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 18-25, 14-16 loss against Kinston on Wednesday afternoon.

Jennifer Jones added four blocks for the Rams, who fell to 1-3 overall.

Midway outlasts RHS

Midway rallied from a 2-1 deficit and turned back Rosewood 27-25, 18-25, 17-25, 25-23, 15-13 non-conference victory Wednesday evening.

Taylor Johnson led the Eagles (1-2 overall) with a team-leading seven kills and four blocks. Paige Babb handed out nine assists.

Cross country

Frederick takes 1st

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock runner Nik Frederick emerged the top individual, but Wilson Hunt claimed an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference sweep Tuesday afternoon.

Frederick ran the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 25 seconds -- half a minute faster than his nearest competitor, Hunt's Bobby White. Fellow Golden Falcon Dontay Woodard claimed third in 20:25.

However, the Warriors captured the next four spots for the 24-34 victory.

On the girls' side, Aycock's tandem of Caroline Schlaeppi and Megan Hales crossed the start-finish line 1-2, respectively. Schlaeppi turned in a meet-winning time of 24:56, while Hales ran the trek in 26:42.

They were the lone Golden Falcons competing in the dual meet.

C.B. Aycock's next meet is Sept. 4 at Beddingfield.

LaGRANGE -- Chelsea Edmondson delivered five kills in North Lenoir's 25-22, 25-16 conquest of archrival South Lenoir.

The Hawks scored eight points with Bethany Fillippeli on serve. They picked up seven points with Darryl Anne Radford and Kristen Davenport behind the service line.

RHS tops Midway

After dropping its first game in lopsided fashion, Rosewood rebounded with a 9-25, 25-23, 25-15 win over Midway.

Rachel Kornegay had five kills, an ace and two digs. Teammate Chelsea Sawkiw added four digs and five assists.

JV tennis

Rams edge CBA

PIKEVILLE -- After falling behind 4-2 following singles play, Greene Central rallied to take all three doubles matches in a 5-4 win over Charles B. Aycock on Wednesday afternoon.

Jessica Gray and Abby Dail were singles winners for Greene Central. The tandems of Casey Perry-Dail, Meredith Carraway-Gray and Caroline Byrd-Dena Turnage were winners in doubles.

Top-seeded Hollie Baker led the singles winners from the Golden Falcons. Other Aycock winners were Nicole Kessler, Amanda Farmer and Harlie Howard.

The Rams swept the regular-season series.
