K-Tribe posts another shutout of Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. -- Scott Roehl collected his Carolina League-leading 18th save as Kinston blanked Wilmington 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

K-Tribe starter Jim Deters earned his seventh decision of the seasaon with a four-hit, six-strikeout effort in seven innings. Deters retired the final 14 batters he faced and gave way to Neil Wagner, who threw a perfect eighth. Roehl mopped up in the ninth.

In the final three games of the four-game series, the Kinston pitching staff tossed two shutouts and limited the Blue Rocks to seven hits in 27 innings.

Armando Camacaro opened the scoring with a third-inning, solo home run. Camacaro finished the series with four round-trippers, including three on Thursday.

Wilmington answered with three consecutive singles in the bottom of the third, but Deters escaped thanks to a bases-loaded double play. The Blue Rocks' Jose Duarte lofted a fly ball to shallow center field and teammate Kiel Thibault tagged up at third. K-Tribe center fielder John Drennen gunned Thibault down at the plate for the second.

Deters fanned the next batter and held Wilmington hitless from that point.

Drennen provided Kinston's final run -- a ninth-inning sacrifice fly that scored Jose Constanza.

Kinston, which compiled a 5-2 mark on its week-long road swing, begins a six-game homestand today against South Division rival Myrtle Beach. K-Tribe hurler Kevin Dixon (10-3, 3.88 ERA) goes after his ninth consecutive win.
