CALABASH -- Kyle Ham and Nick Barrow, a pair of rising seniors at Eastern Wayne, earned All-American status while competing in the 10th annual National High School Open Golf Championships.

Ham placed third with a 54-hole score of 220, which included a 70 on the second day of competition. Barrow carded a 237 and ended up 14th overall, despite an opening-round 84.

The top-20 finishes assured the duo of All-American honors.

The NHSOGC attracted more than 70 players from across the nation to the picturesque Brunswick Plantation and Golf Resort. All the competitors battled for two days to make the cut of 100, which comprised the final round of play.

The National High School Coaches Association selects coaches and senior athletes of the year in 20 boys and girls sports, and sponsors more than two dozen national championship events in 11 sports. Founded in 1989, the NHSCA is a service organization which provides support and leadership programs for the nation's 500,000 high school coaches and 10 million high school athletes.

Upon completion of the NHSOGC, Ham traveled to Pinehurst and played in the North-South Junior Amateur. He ended up 43rd among 93 golfers.
