Post 11 routs Edgecombe County

TARBORO -- Jackson Massey and Walker Gourley each launched a second-inning home run and Wayne County Post 11 claimed a 14-3 decision over Edgecombe County Post 316 on Thursday evening.

Massey's grand slam and Gourley's solo blast capped a five-run uprising as Post 11 captured its sixth consecutive win. Wayne County (13-2 overall) returns to action next Wednesday at Area I East South Division co-leader New Bern Post 24.

Edgecombe County concluded its inaugural season 1-19 overall.

Trailing 2-1, Post 11 loaded the bases on an error, Connor Narron's walk and a hit batter. Massey slapped a breaking pitch over the 345-foot marker in right center field for his second round-tripper of the season.

Gourley followed with his first homer.

Narron supplied an RBI single in the third to score Nolan Lancaster, who doubled. A two-out throwing error cleared the bases in the fourth inning and boosted Wayne County's advantage to 10-2.

Will Edgerton rapped an RBI triple and John Wooten contributed an RBI double in a four-run, ninth-inning uprising. Wooten has 20 RBI this season.

Post 11 right-hander Taylor Bullard worked five innings and earned his second straight victory. The Harrells Christian graduate surrendered three runs (two earned) on seven hits and walked three Post 316 batters.

Jay Rose and Massey combined for four innings of three-hit, seven-strikeout relief.
