GREENVILLE -- Southern Wayne's state playoff run came to an abrupt end on Tuesday night as they fell 3-0 to the D.H. Conley Vikings in the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A eastern playoffs.
Vikings pitcher Brittany Sutton tossed seven scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and struck out eight.
Conley struck first in the opening inning as it scored two runs off Saints starter Lauren Darden on wild pitches.
Darden allowed three runs on three hits and struck out five in six innings.
Southern Wayne's chance at a comeback came in the sixth inning.
Trailing 3-0, the Saints loaded the bases after an error, walk and a base hit by Alyssa Bradshaw with one out.
The threat ended when the Saints grounded into an inning-ending double play.
Bunn no-hits North Lenoir
BUNN -- North Lenoir's season drew to a close on Tuesday night as its bats went quiet against Bunn pitching in a 1-0 loss in the semifinals of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A eastern playoffs.
Brittany Sanders was the hard-luck loser as she allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out five.
The Hawks finished the year 17-8 overall.

Hawks roll to regional final
LaGRANGE -- Behind three home runs, North Lenoir walloped Cedar Ridge 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday night in the semifinals of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A-A eastern playoffs.
The victory advances the Hawks two-time defending state champions to their third consecutive regional final series.
North Lenoir will take on Whiteville beginning on Thursday night in a best-of-three series.
On Tuesday, Bryce Grady, Sthil Sowers and Taylor Ginn all connected for home runs.
Grady finished the night 2-for-3 with three RBI, Sowers 1-for-2 with two RBI and Ginn 1-for-2 with three RBI.
Brandon Sutton and Tyler Smith both contributed two hits apiece for the Hawks.
On the mound, Sowers threw five shut-out innings, scattered six hits and struck out five. He did not walk a batter.
North Lenoir improves its overall record to 25-3 on the season.
