Mount Olive hires women's soccer coach

MOUNT OLIVE -- Matt Hisler has been named the new head women's soccer coach at Mount Olive and becomes the third head coach in the program's 12-year history.

Hisler comes to Mount Olive from College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, N.Y., where he served as head men's soccer coach. Hisler's hiring marks a return to eastern North Carolina after he spent four years as assistant men's soccer coach at Methodist College in Fayetteville. He also coach girls' varsity soccer at Fayetteville Christian School.

A graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College, Hisler has coached in the Olympic Development Program in North Carolina and Virginia. He succeeds Chris Shaw, who stepped down in March to accept a position as assistant women's soccer coach at Fresno State University. Hisler holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) D National License, USSF B License, National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Diploma and NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.

Hisler is familiar with the Mount Olive women's soccer program.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to coach at Mount Olive," said Hisler, who saw the Trojans while at Methodist. "I have a lot of respect for the job Coach Shaw did with the program and I hope to be able to continue to build on that success."

"We are excited to have Matt join us as our new head women's soccer coach," said Eisen. "With his coaching experience and regional connections, we are confident that he will be able to continue the successful development of our women's soccer program."

Mount Olive posted an overall record of 15-7-0 last year and finished third in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference standings with a 9-2-0 mark. The Trojans were ranked No. 10 in the year-end Southeast Region poll.

Mount Olive has a record of 49-19 (.721) over the last three seasons.
