CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Grant Psomas hit a two-run homer while Brad Davis hit a three-run triple in the eighth to lift Carolina past Chattanooga 5-1 in Southern League play Monday evening.

Psomas drilled his fifth homer in the second inning against Lookouts starter Justin Mallet (1-1) after Lee Mitchell started the inning with a ground-rule double to right. Leading 2-1 in the seventh, Davis tripled up the left-centerfield alley with the bases loaded as the Mudcats (13-18) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Daniel Barone (1-2) allowed one run in six innings and matched his season-high of eight strikeouts. Barone notched his first win since last August 22 when he defeated Tennessee. Craig Molldrem worked two scoreless innings, then turned the ball over to Kurt Koehler who allowed one hit in a shutout ninth inning.

Ryan Bear and Psomas had three hits apiece, with the Mudcats drilling 12 against the Lookouts pitching staff. With the victory, Carolina leads the season series 4-2 over the Lookouts, and moved into a fourth-place tie with Chattanooga.

Game two is today at 7:15 p.m.
