Pittman recognized by CVAC softball peers

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive outfielder Tiffanie Pittman, who hit .667 with 12 RBI in six games last week, has been named Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Softball Player of the Week.

Pittman becomes the sixth different Trojan in the last five weeks to win either the CVAC player or pitcher of the week award. This week also marks the fifth consecutive week a Trojan was named player of the week.

Pittman, a senior from Riverside, Calif., went 3-for-3 with two doubles in both the first and second game against St. Andrews as the Trojans recorded a pair of run-rule victories in the CVAC doubleheader. An All-CVAC first team selection last year, Pittman singled on the first pitch of game one and doubled on the first pitch of game two. Batting in the leadoff spot, she drove in four runs with a three-run double and a sacrifice fly.

She was 2-for-2 with a double and two walks in the Trojans' game one victory over Anderson, then went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the nightcap as the Trojans improved their conference record to 6-0.

Mount Olive is the lone remaining unbeaten team in CVAC play. She capped the week with a 2-for-4 performance in the Trojans' 4-0 win over Chowan, breaking open a one-run game with a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth.

Pittman, who had only four doubles through her first 20 games of the season, now ranks third in the CVAC with 11 doubles. Pittman, who is batting .684 this season in conference games, also raised her overall batting average 90 points to .329.
