VASS -- Mount Olive carded a team total of 296 in the second round to overcome a seven-shot deficit and capture first place out of nine teams at the St. Andrews Men's Golf Spring Invitational Tuesday at Woodlake Resort and Golf Club in Vass.

The championship is the Trojans' third in four tournaments during the spring. The win also gives Mount Olive a sweep at St. Andrews during 2006-07, having won the St. Andrews Fall Invitational in September.

Scott Woodard shot a 2-over-par 74 in the second round and finished third out of 48 golfers with a 36-hole total of 150. Woodard moved up from fourth place after the first round.

Chris Bitzenhofer and Jonathan Greene were among three players tied for the lowest second-round score as both carded a 1-over-par 73. Bitzenhofer, who finished second in last year's tournament, tied for eighth overall with a 153, while Greene tied for 10th with a 154.

Mick Moberg, who won last year's title, tied for 17th with an 84-76--150. Johan Hagsund tied for 20th with an 81-82--163.

After shooting a 318 Monday in the first round, Mount Olive finished with a 36-hole score of 614 to finish eight shots ahead of Findlay (Ohio). First-round leader Queens finished third with a 625.

At last year's rain-shortened Spring Invitational, Mount Olive tied for the lowest team score, but settled for runner-up due to a tie-breaker.

Mount Olive is off until March 31 when the Trojans compete in the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate at Carolina Sands Golf Club in White Lake, N.C. The tournament is hosted by UNC Pembroke.
