LAURINBURG -- Tiffanie Pittman went 3-for-3 in both games and Jenny Jackson hit a grand slam home run in game two as Mount Olive swept a Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference softball doubleheader over St. Andrews 12-0 and 9-0 Thursday.
Pittman set the tone for Mount Olive (20-7 overall, 4-0 CVAC) by drilling the first pitch of the day up the middle for a single. Pittman eventually came home on Jackson's two-out RBI single and the Trojans added two unearned runs in the inning, the final run coming when Kensie Cobb stole home on a double steal.
The Trojans broke the game open with a five-run third inning. Pittman capped the inning with a two-out, three-run double, driving a 3-2 pitch to the right field fence to clear the bases. The double was Pittman's second of the game as Mount Olive extended its lead to 8-0.
Mount Olive added four runs in the fourth, two coming on bases loaded walks and another on Melissa Bright's RBI bunt single. Pittman finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly for her fourth RBI of the game.
Jackson (5-3) pitched three scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing three hits. Christine Ermer retired the side in order in the fourth and fifth innings to seal the run-rule victory.
St. Andrews (6-22, 2-8) threatened in each of the first two innings, but left the bases loaded in the first and stranded two runners in the second.
