Trojan womens' basketball: Corley, Moore recognized by CVAC

MISENHEIMER -- Mount Olive junior Keona Corley and freshman Helen Moore were both named to the second team as the 2006-07 All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball honors were announced Thursday during the awards banquet at the 2007 CVAC Tournament at Pfeiffer University.

The All-CVAC award is the first for both players and extends Mount Olive's streak to four consecutive years with at least one player named to the women's basketball second team or higher.

Corley, a 5-5 guard from Lillington (Harnett Central HS), has ranked in the top 10 in assists and steals throughout the season, ranking first in steals during much of January. Corley is currently fifth in the nation in assists with an average of 6.9 per game and 10th in steals with a 3.5 per game average.

Corley set school single-game records with 15 assists against District of Columbia -- just over a week after she dished out 14 assists against Erskine -- and 11 steals against Limestone. Her 11 steals is tied for the highest single-game total in Division II women's basketball this season. She came within one assist of a triple-double against Limestone, finishing with 11 points, 11 steals and nine assists.

Moore, a 5-9 freshman from Kenly (North Johnston HS), ranked fourth in scoring in the CVAC with 15.6 points per game. She scored in double figures in 24 of 27 games, including a streak of 17 consecutive double-figure games from November to mid-January. She had six games of 20 or more points, including a career-high 25 points against regionally top-ranked Pfeiffer. She recorded three double-doubles, the last coming in Mount Olive's regular season finale as Moore tallied 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in the Trojans' 68-56 victory over nationally 21st-ranked Anderson.

Corley's and Moore's selection marks the first time in Mount Olive women's basketball history the Trojans have placed at least two players on the second team or higher in the same season.
