MOUNT OLIVE -- Morgan Whaley was named Softball Player of the Week and Krystal Bourne earned Pitcher of the Week honors as Mount Olive swept this week's Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference weekly softball awards for the second consecutive week. Jenny Jackson captured both honors last week.

Whaley, a sophomore third baseman from Beaulaville (East Duplin HS), hit .571 last week and compiled a 1.429 slugging percentage with two doubles, two triples and two home runs in 14 at-bats. Her three-run homer with two outs in the top of the first proved to be the game-winning hit in the Trojans' conference-opening 3-2 win at Belmont Abbey. She came within a single of hitting for the cycle in a 12-4 win over North Carolina Central.

Whaley drove in 12 runs in five games, including three consecutive three-RBI performances.

Bourne, a senior pitcher from Redding, Calif. (Shasta College), posted a 1-0 record with a save in two appearances. She allowed one run in six innings in Mount Olive's 7-1 win at Belmont Abbey to complete a doubleheader sweep. She scattered eight hits and left seven Belmont Abbey runners stranded. She also recorded a save in the Trojans' 10-7 victory over North Carolina Central, entering the game with nobody out in the top of the seventh and thwarting a late rally.

Mount Olive (9-1 overall, 2-0 CVAC) posted a 6-0 record during the week to improve the Trojans' best start since 2000.

Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans play host to Wingate in a non-conference doubleheader. Wingate was the 27th-highest vote-getter in the preseason Division II Top 25. Game time is 3 p.m. at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field.
