WHITAKERS -- The song might say "one is the loneliest number," but "one" had plenty of company for the Mount Olive College men's golf team Tuesday.

Mount Olive was No. 1 in the team competition, Mick Moberg was No. 1 in the individual competition and Johan Hagsund sank a hole-in-one at the North Carolina Wesleyan Don Scalf Invitational at Hickory Meadows Golf Club.

The tournament was Mount Olive's first of the spring season.

Moberg, who was the first-round leader, finished with a 3-under-par 67-74--141, three strokes ahead of teammate Scott Woodard, who tied for second with a 77-67--144. Moberg and Woodard tied for the lowest single round of the tournament.

"Mick really pulled through for us the first day with his 67 and Scott did they same today with his 67," said head coach Chip Spiron.

Hagsund tied for fourth out of 49 golfers with a 76-71--147. His ace came on the 163-yard par-3 third hole, using a 7-iron. The ace is believed to be the first by a Trojan player during tournament play.

Mount Olive fielded two teams in the tournament with Team A finishing first out of nine teams with a 297-298--595, followed by Team B in second with a 306-309--615. Moberg and Woodard competed for Team A, while Hagsund competed for Team B. Six Trojans finished in the top 10.

Competing for Team A, Jonathan Greene (75-80--155) and Chris Bitzenhofer (77-78--155) tied for seventh, while Will Williams (78-80--158) tied for 16th.

Representing Team B, Tyler Rainear (73-78--151) finished sixth, while Cameron Phillips (73-78--151) tied for 13th. Brad Alford (77-83--160) tied for 19th and Michael Johnson (83-83--166) tied for 23rd.

Mount Olive returns to action Monday and Tuesday as the Trojans play host to the MOC Men's and Women's Golf Invitational at Southern Wayne Country Club.
