ROCKY MOUNT -- Josh Carter and David Cooper homered and Daniel Wood pitched four scoreless innings as nationally 27th-ranked Mount Olive posted a rain-shortened 13-1 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan in non-conference baseball action Tuesday. The game was called after six complete innings due to rain.

Mount Olive (4-4) got all the runs it needed in the top of the first as Cooper led off the game with a walk and eventually scored on an error. Erik Lovett tripled a run in and scored on Dustin Richardson's single to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead.

Carter ignited a seven-run second inning with a leadoff home run to left, his first of the season. Lovett and Stephen Nordan added RBI singles as the Trojans scored five runs and still had the bases loaded before recording an out. After North Carolina Wesleyan (5-1) turned a double play, Josh Harrison capped the scoring with a two-run single as the Trojans extended the lead to 10-0 after two innings.

Cooper led off the third with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored on a groundout. Cooper capped the Trojans' scoring with his first home run of the season, a two-run line shot over the right field fence in the top of the fifth.

North Carolina Wesleyan, which suffered its first loss of the season, avoided the shutout when Justin Batts drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the sixth and Nathan West eventually drove in a run with a bases-loaded single.

Wood (1-0) allowed four hits and struck out one in his first start of the season. Wood retired the side in order in the second, was aided by a double play in the third and escaped a bases loaded jam in the fourth. Patrick Ball and Darrell Ellis each pitched an inning in relief for the Trojans.

Jonathon Shearon (0-1) took the loss for North Carolina Wesleyan.
