PIKEVILLE -- Focused with more intensity.

After wrestling a flat match against county rival 24 hours earlier, Charles B. Aycock celebrated Senior Night in dominating fashion Friday evening. The Golden Falcons seized seven of nine individual contested bouts and pummeled Wilson Fike 63-6.

It was the final regular-season home match for eight seniors -- Kyle Harmon, Daniel Zopfi, Gabriel Huang, Bryant Lancaster, Ronald Lynn, Ngu Tran, Steve Bentley and Josh Overton. The grapplers comprise a majority of the team which won the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference regular-season and tournament titles a year ago, and have participated on two eastern regional runner-up teams in the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs.

"These seniors have presided over a remarkable four years at Aycock," said Golden Falcons head coach Kevin Smith. "After four years of camps, practice and weekend tournaments, these guys are truly a part of my extended family.

"I will definitely miss them next year."

Heavyweight and first-year starter Khiry Reid started Aycock's night with a forfeit. Teammates Drake Gurley (112 pounds) and Joseph Conner (119) each received a forfeit against the short-handed Golden Demons.

Senior Ngu Tran recorded the night's second-fastest pin -- a 30-second fall against Fike at 125 pounds. Kevin Carmel followed with a 69-second fall at 130.

"Kevin turned the corner for us about three weeks ago," said Smith. "He is so much more comfortable on the mat, and is making very good decisions in his matches. Those good decisions have been rewarded with a number of very solid wins for him.

"He, too, is making a big impact on our success this season."

After a loss at 135 pounds, Aycock's Overton posted a 7-2 decision at 140. Lancaster posted a second-period fall at 145 and Steve Bentley responded with a 28-second fall at 160 pounds.

Smith said that Overton's confidence continues to blossom and added that his recent success is contributing to Aycock's overall success.

Harmon (171) drew a forfeit, while Huang claimed an injury default at 189. Jarrett Covar finished off the Golden Demons with a second-period fall at 215.

C.B. Aycock (22-1) concludes its regular-season schedule on the road Tuesday at Eastern Wayne. Both teams are 3-0 in ECC play and the winner grabs the No. 1 seed for the dual-team playoffs.
