ANDERSON, S.C. -- With one day to regroup from a disappointing overtime loss to its archrival, the Mount Olive College men's basketball team took out its frustrations on Anderson University.

Elton Coffield came off the bench and provided a game-high 25 points in the Trojans' 97-57 rout of Anderson at the Abney Center on Saturday afternoon. Mount Olive, which lost to Barton on Thursday, improved to 12-5 overall and 6-4 in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference.

Coffield buried 6 of 11 shots from the floor and shot 80 percent (8 of 10) from the free throw line. He picked Anderson clean for four steals.

The visiting Trojans shot 57 percent in the second half and converted 27 turnovers into 32 points. Mount Olive outscored Anderson 32-9 in the final 10-plus minutes of the opening half en route to a 50-27 advantage at intermission.

Brandon Streeter complemented Coffield with a 19-point performance. Elijah Rouse delivered 15 points and six steals. Newcomers Kendrick Easley and Mike Holloman tallied 10 points apiece.

Mount Olive outscored Anderson 40-22 in the paint and collected 14 steals as a team.

J.R. Howell led Anderson with 16 points.

Anderson (2-13 overall, 2-7 CVAC) dropped its fifth consecutive game and eighth in its last nine outings overall.

Keana Boyd and Deidra Langston sparked a late second-half run as No. 24-ranked Anderson University denied Mount Olive College's upset bid 71-69 on Saturday afternoon.

Boyd and Langston combined for six points during a 14-4 run which gave the homestanding Trojans a 63-53 advantage with 2 minutes, 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

Like they did Tuesday against Barton, the visiting Trojans made one last push. Within a 52-second span, Mount Olive closed the gap to a single possession -- 70-67 -- thanks to a pair of Tomeka Prichard 3-pointers.

Boyd drained a free throw and sealed Anderson's victory with 10 seconds left.

Neither team managed more than a six-point lead in the opening half until Anderson closed out the half with an 8-3 run. The Trojans, the two-time defending CVAC regular-season champions, owned a 31-20 advantage at the break.

Mount Olive shot 55 percent in the second half and had four players to score in double figures. Prichard and Sierra Medeiros tallied 16 points apiece. Redshirt freshman Helen Moore and Alisa Jones each scored 10 points.

Langston finished with a double-double -- 19 points, 13 rebounds. Boyd contributed 15 points, while Latrice Thomas and Mikala Fogle-Wilson added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Fogle-Wilson had five of Anderson's 12 steals.

Anderson (13-2 overall, 8-1 CVAC) owned a 21-point advantage the free throw line and posted 22 second-chance points compared to four for Mount Olive.

The teams combined for 11 ties and seven lead changes.

Mount Olive (7-9, 4-6 CVAC) entertains the University of District of Columbia on Tuesday. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m. at Kornegay Arena on the MOC campus.
