C.B. Aycock fall awards

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock recognized six Most Valuable Players and more than 30 athletes received hardware during the fall sports ceremony held recently in the old gymnasium.

Raychel Batts (women's tennis), Anna Sullivan (JV volleyball), Kelli Forbis (women's golf), Alex Rodriguez (men's soccer), Caroline Schlaeppi (women's cross country) and Nik Fredrick (men's cross country) each earned MVP honors in their respective sports.

Batts emerged a four-time eastern regional champion during her career with three singles and one doubles title.

Forbis claimed the N.C. High School Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A/3-A regional crown -- the first in school history for golf.

Here are the award winners:

* Varsity women's tennis: MVP -- Raychel Batts; Sportsmanship -- Kristen Prosser; Coach's Award -- Emilee Quinn; Most Competitive -- Lizzie Sodoma; Most Improved -- Courtney Barnes; Outstanding Singles -- Kristen Bennett.

* JV women's tennis: Coach's Award -- Hollie Baker; Most Improved -- Cynthia Burroughs.

* JV football: Offensive Player of the Year -- Dominique Young; Defensive Player of the Year -- Tyheim Pitt.

* JV volleyball: MVP -- Anna Sullivan; Most Improved -- Jennifer Warren.

* Varsity volleyball: Most Improved -- Lauren Pratt; Most Outstanding -- Amy Fryt; Coach's Award -- Kaitlyn Stafford; Hustle Award -- Emily Jordan; Jane Tyndal Memorial Award -- Garrett Forrest.

* Women's golf: MVP -- Kelli Forbis; Coach's Award -- Brooke Newell; Most Improved -- Brittany Barfield.

* JV men's soccer: Co-Coach's Players of the Year -- Patrick Roosen and Michael Bunn.

* Varsity men's soccer: MVP -- Alex Rodriguez; Offensive Player of the Year -- Jorge Delgado; Defensive Player of the Year -- Jared Kennedy and Marcos Contreras; Co-Coach's Players of the Year -- Carson Sasser and Rich Holder.

* Women's cross country: MVP -- Caroline Schlaeppi; Extra Effort -- Megan Hales; Most Improved -- Amanda Schlaeppi; Leadership Award -- Danielle Sealey.

* Men's cross country: MVP -- Nik Fredrick; Coach's Award -- Daniel Pennington; Most Improved -- Jackson Wooten; Freshman of the Year -- Eric Dubose.
