Trojans put three players on women's all-region team

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive tied for the most all-region selections as the Trojans placed three players on the 2006 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Women's Soccer Team, as selected by sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools in the region. Midfielder April Jacobs was named to the first team, while defenders Kirsten White and Caitlyn Wright were named to the second team.

Jacobs, a junior from Fayetteville (Pine Forest HS), has ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation in assists and is currently second in total assists and assists per game. Her school-record 19 assists this season are tied for the 17th-highest single-season total in NCAA Division II women's soccer history. A three-time All-Region and All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference selection, Jacobs was one of 14 players named to the All-Time CVAC Women's Soccer Team. She also scored seven goals this year.

As an all-region first team selection, Jacobs is eligible for All-America consideration.

White, a freshman from Woodstock, Ontario, earned All-CVAC first team honors and was the 2006 CVAC Women's Soccer Freshman of the Year. White, who earned CVAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors this season, helped the Trojans' defense post nine shutouts and limit opponents to a 0.93 goals against average. After playing most of the season at sweeper, White moved to the midfield due to injuries to team members. White tied for the team lead with 13 goals, including a hat trick against North Greenville.

Wright, a junior from Titusville, Fla., earned All-CVAC honorable mention in 2006. Wright, who tallied seven of her 12 assists in the final five matches of the season, is tied for 21st in the nation in assists per game. Wright, who was named CVAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week in the final week of the regular season, recorded at least one assist in seven of her final nine matches.

Mount Olive's three all-region selections this year are a school best after two Trojans earned all-region honors last year. Mount Olive tied with Armstrong Atlantic State for the most players on this year's All-Southeast Region Team.

Mount Olive posted an overall record of 15-7-0 and tied for second in the CVAC with a 9-2 mark. The Trojans came within a game of making their third straight appearance in the championship game of the CVAC Tournament, falling to eventual champion Belmont Abbey 2-1 in double overtime in the semifinals.
