MOUNT OLIVE -- Anna-Marie Luft was named to the first team and Sam Mitchell earned honorable mention as Mount Olive placed two players on the 2006 AVCA All-Atlantic Region Volleyball Team, as selected by members of the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The award marks the fourth consecutive year at least two Trojans have earned AVCA All-Region honors.

Luft, a senior from Swansboro (Swansboro HS), is now a three-time all-region selection. Luft earned All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference first team honors for the third consecutive year and was one of 13 players named to the All-Time CVAC Volleyball Team. Luft ranked among the top 10 in the CVAC with a .291 hitting percentage. She recorded her first-ever "20-20" performance with career highs of 23 kills and 23 digs against regional top 10 Converse. Playing right-side hitter, Luft reached double figures in kills 14 times and had five double-figure performances in digs.

Mitchell, a junior from Boyd, Wis., earned her second all-region honor of the season after having been named to the 2006 Daktronics All-Atlantic Region second team last week. Mitchell recorded 24 double-doubles (kills and digs) in 29 matches. She tallied four matches with at least 20 kills and 20 digs, and matched a career high with 27 kills against Limestone in the quarterfinal round of the 2006 CVAC Tournament. Mitchell, who was named to the All-CVAC first team for the second year in a row, also earned Academic All-District honors last week.

Mount Olive posted an overall record of 10-20 and finished seventh in the CVAC with an 8-12 mark.
