Mathis, Stedman pace James Kenan victory

CLINTON -- Stedman Mathis and Brandon Satchell each rushed for two touchdowns, and state-ranked James Kenan crushed Union 42-6 on the Class 1-A Super Six Conference scene Monday evening.
The Tigers remained perfect in 10 outings heading into Friday's regular-season finale at county archrival Wallace-Rose Hill, which is ranked No. 2 and also 10-0. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Thell B. Overman Field.
Mathis tallied touchdowns on runs of 55 and 1 yards, and collected a career-best 176 yards on 13 totes. Satchell provided touchdown runs of 5 and 16 yards, and ended the night with 37 yards on just seven totes.
Jayvon Devane returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown. Alex Flores, who plays linebacker on defense, collected a second-quarter touchdown run.
James Kenan used 10 backs in the game and finished with 282 yards rushing.
Tiger quarterback Shawn Jones completed five passes for 83 yards. Jamian Smith, who ranks among the area leaders in receiving yardage, hauled in three receptions for 24 yards. Stamper Jones caught two passes for 59 yards.
Union (5-5, 1-3 Super Six) managed just seven first downs and 150 yards of total offense. Akheim Faison paced the James Kenan defense with four solo tackles and five assists, while Kordarius Brown posted four tackles and four assists.
Sean Wilson, Darius Hand and Jermaine Young were in on six tackles apiece.
