With the closing of Wayne, Duplin, Greene and Lenoir County schools today due to the remnants of tropical storm Ernesto, tonight's slate of football games in the News-Argus coverage area has been altered.
With Johnston County operating on a two-hour delay, Princeton is still trying to play its home game against Union tonight at 7:30 p.m. But it will take approval by the Sampson County superintendent since all Sampson County schools are closed today. If the game is not played tonight, it will be rescheduled for Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Farmville Central at James Kenan (7 p.m.) and Kinston at North Lenoir (7:30 p.m.) are the only games that might be played Saturday depending on field conditions.
On Monday, Goldsboro will host Jones Senior in a rare 2 p.m. game, while Southern Wayne will entertain Wilmington Hoggard at 7 p.m. and Spring Creek will take on Midway in Seven Springs at 7 p.m. South Central at Eastern Wayne (7 p.m.), Hobbton at Rosewood (7 p.m.) and North Duplin at Topsail (7 p.m.) were moved to Monday earlier this week.
The 45th meeting between Greene Central and Charles B. Aycock will have to wait until Sept. 29 in Pikeville when both schools have an open date. The junior varsity game between the Rams and Falcons will be played Sept. 28 in Snow Hill.
