Aycock spikers sweep Spring Creek

PIKEVILLE -- Senior outside hitter Shelly Lancaster collected eight kills in Charles B. Aycock's 25-10, 25-13, 25-21 non-conference victory over Spring Creek on Thursday afternoon.

Jazzmine Lee added six kills for the Golden Falcons, who remained unbeaten in two outings.

Kristin Smith and Tasha Whitfield each led the Gators with four kills and two blocks. Ashley Barwick dished out four assists, while Brooke Albertson handed out three assists.

It was Spring Creek's season-opening match.

C.B. Aycock (2-0) entertains South Johnston next Wednesday.

North Duplin

gets road win

NEWTON GROVE -- Heather Hudson and Jessica Pridgen combined for 11 kills in North Duplin's season-opening 25-22, 26-24, 16-25, 25-5 victory over Hobbton on Thursday afternoon.

Hudson added two service aces and four digs.

Brittany Carr conributed two kills, eight aces and eight digs. Casey Pate served seven aces and Vanessa Lynch added one kill, one assist and three aces.

North Duplin (1-0) is the guest of Wayne Christian next Tuesday.

Eagles cruise

past Community

Katie Daniels provided three kills and two aces in Wayne Christian's 25-14, 25-11, 25-18 victory over Carolina Christian 1-A foe Community Christian at Clifford Gymnasium.

Michelle Krug contributed five assists, one kill and two aces. Traci Davis served eight aces and collected two kills.

Brooke Norris chipped in with one kill and three aces.

Wayne Christian (5-3, 1-2 CCC) travels to Albemarle Academy for an invitational tournament Saturday.

Eric Williams and Spencer Heath each accounted for a goal in Wayne Christian's 2-1 conquest of Community Christian on the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference scene Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles improved to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 against CCC opposition. They continue play Saturday against Faith Christian-Rocky Mount in the Brittany II Showcase in Wilson. Game time is 2 p.m.

Wayne Christian triumphed in four of five contested singles matches and defeated Community Christian 7-2 in their Carolina Christian 1-A match Thursday afternoon at Herman Park.

Chris Hoeper, Catie Fairchild, Samantha Reaves and Reagan Hinton each seized a pro-set (eight-game) victory in singles.

Mary West-Fairchild claimed the Eagles' lone doubles win.

Community Christian defaulted two matches.

The Eagles (1-0, 1-0 CCC) play Southern Wayne's junior varsity squad on Aug. 31.

emerge top runners

Wayne Christian's Doug Johnson and Jennifer Price each recorded a top-10 finish in a three-team Carolina Christian 1-A Conference meet Thursday afternoon at Johnston Christian.

Johnson ran the 3.1-mile course in 22 minutes and five seconds. Teammates Justin Brathwaite and Jon Massey crossed the finish line in 13th and 17th place, respectively.

Price completed the course in 27:06 and ended fourth in the girls. Martha Summerlin and Shelle Anderson added 11th- and 12th-place times for the Eagles.

Cresset Christian won the boys' meet, while Cary Christian won the girls' meet. Final scores were not available.

PIKEVILLE -- Jordan Coor served an ace in Spring Creek's season-opening 25-11, 25-22 non-conference loss at Charles B. Aycock on Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons improved to 1-0.

NEWTON GROVE -- Hobbton dropped the opening set, but rallied for a 21-25, 25-13, 25-20 victory over North Duplin on Thursday afternoon.

Katie Swanzey led the visiting Rebels with five service aces and five digs.

Sam Cates and Felicia Lynch each contributed two kills, while Lynch served three aces.

It was North Duplin's season-opening match.

A friendly reminder

All Goldsboro High fans are reminded to enter the front gate for tonight's football contest against Eastern Wayne.

Warrior fans are asked to enter the back gate located off Jackson Street.

The gates will open at 6:30 p.m.
