LaGRANGE -- Eastern Wayne junior Bryan Coltrane scored the Warriors first two goals in a 6-0, season-opening win at North Lenoir on Monday.

In a balanced effort, senior Dustin Smith, juniors Will Hughes and Matt Wolf and freshman Eric Suncin knocked in one goal each for Eastern Wayne (1-0). Smith and Wolf scored on penalty kicks in the 60th and 85th minute, respectively.

Hughes had the lone assist for the Warriors, who outshot the Hawks (0-1), 34-7.

Eastern Wayne's Vincent Hagedorn and Josh Olmsted had two save each in the goal in the shutout.

Eastern Wayne hosts Wilson Fike at Little Big Horn on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

CBA wins opener

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Jorge Delgado provided two goals in the second half, including the go-ahead goal in the 30th minute, as the Golden Falcons defeated Wilson Fike, 5-2 in the season-opening game for both squads.

Delgado dished out an assist to Alex Rodriguez to open the scoring in the 12th minute of the first half, before the Demons bounced back to take a 2-1 lead at intermission.

From there, Aycock scored four unanswered after halftime to pull away. Rodriguez, who also had two assists, added a goal on a direct kick from 20 yards out, while Rich Holder capped the scoring. C.P. Cranford and Pearson Tucker notched one assist each for the Falcons (1-0), who outshot Fike 18-13.

Jared Kennedy had eight saves in goal for Aycock, which hosts Wayne Country Day on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Rams suffer

road loss

WILSON -- Greene Central's Jorge Gonzalez and Alex Mendez finished with one goal each in the Rams 5-2 loss at Wilson Beddingfield on Monday.

Ivan Martinez posted 13 saves in goal for Greene Central (0-1), which hosts Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Rosewood sweeps

Spartans

CLINTON -- Rosewood's Courtney Hill served on 14 points in the Eagles' 25-13, 25-19, 25-18 sweep at Union on Monday.

Chandra Meadows and Kasie Braswell added six service points each for Rosewood, which is coming off a 25-1 campaign in 2005.

Eagles coach Jennifer Cochran praised the effort of setters Aubrey Reinhard and Roxie Phillips, along with middle hitter Ashley Williams.

Rosewood (1-0) travels to Goldsboro on Aug. 29 at 4:30 p.m.

WCDS drops

Cougars at home

Wayne Country Day's Ashley Clark had 11 assists and served up four aces as the Chargers cruised to a 25-19, 25-17, 25-9 non-conference win over Goldsboro on Monday.

Erin Taylor added five aces and one kill for WCDS (2-1), while Shelly Sullivan provided four kills and two aces.

Stephanie Sykes contributed a balanced effort with three digs, three aces and two kills.

The Chargers return to action on Friday at home against Halifax Academy.

Greene Central

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central's Sarah Beth Carraway claimed the Rams lone win in an 8-1 loss to Greenfield School on Monday in the season opener for both schools. Carraway won at No. 2 singles, topping Mallory Short 6-4, 6-1.

The Knights took their five singles victories in straight sets and lost just three doubles games in three matches.

Greene Central travels to Rocky Mount today for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
