Norris' 16 kills paces Eagles past Chargers

Brooke Norris collected 16 kills as Wayne Christian swept county rival Wayne Country Day 25-19, 28-26, 27-25 at Clifford Gymnasium on Thursday afternoon.

Katie Daniels added 14 kills and one block. Hanna Kaler and Michelle Krug combined for five kills.

Stephanie Sykes and Shelly Sullivan led Wayne Country Day's attack with three kills and three aces each. Jessica Lewis provided two kills.

Ashley Clark dished out 10 assists, served five aces and collected three digs defensively. Sullivan also recorded three digs.

Wayne Christian (4-1) opens its Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference slate at home today against Cresset Christian. Wayne Country Day (0-1) entertains East Wake Academy today.

Cross country

Johnson, Price

lead Eagles

Wayne Christian's Doug Johnson and Jennifer Price each finished third in their respective divisions during Thursday afternoon's season-opening cross country meet against Cresset Christian.

Johnson ran the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 42 seconds. Cresset's Mike Kennedy and Jonathan Stallings ended up first and second, respectively, in an 18-37 win.

Price turned in a time of 28:04 on the girls' side.

Cresset, again, claimed the top two spots and an 18-37 victory.

Wayne Christian entertains Goldsboro High next Monday afternoon.
