K-Tribe closes first-half play with loss

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The K-Tribe ended the first half of the season with a 4-2 loss to Myrtle Beach on Sunday afternoon at Coastal Federal Field.

The Indians ended the first half of the season with a franchise best 47-23 record, Kinston's most wins ever in a half of the season.

The K-Tribe took a 2-1 lead when catcher Armando Camacaro led off the fifth inning with a bunt single, and later scored on a ground out by Argenis Reyes. Myrtle Beach would come back in the sixth inning with a two-run homer by Carl Loadenthal, breaking the tie and giving the Pelicans a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.

Scott Roehl took the loss for the K-Tribe in relief. Jensen Lewis started the game, going 52/3 innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs, picking up his fifth no decision in a row.

Kinston will take today off, and then start the second half of the season Tuesday night at Lynchburg with Chuck Lofgren taking the mound for the K-Tribe.

INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE

Durham 6, Charlotte 4

FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) -- Kevin Witt hit a two-run homer in the third and two-run single in the seventh to lead Durham to a 6-4 win against Charlotte in International League play Sunday.

It was Witt's 18th home run of the season for Durham (33-36).

Charlotte (48-21) had nine hits, but stranded eight men on base. Jorge Velandia went 2-for-5 with one RBI to lead the Knights.

Chris Seddon (6-3) gave up four runs and earned the win. Jon Switzer got his third save of the season. Matt Skrmetta (0-1) took the loss.
