GREENVILLE -- Wayne County Post 11 was held hitless after the fourth inning as Greenville Post 160 took care of the visitors 13-4 on Saturday night.

Post 11, which fell to 4-7 overall and 2-6 in Area One East play, took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second as Jackson Massey drove home two runs with a single. Massey finished the game 3-for-4 to lead Wayne County.

Post 160, however, rallied in the bottom of the inning with six runs, and later put the game away with a four-run sixth. Tyrell Worthington had the big knock in the second with a three-run homer, and Post 160's Mike Taylor added a two-run shot in the sixth.

On the night, Greenville outhit Wayne 17-6.

Massey took the loss on the mound as he gave up six runs on six hits in 12/3 innings. T.J. Hinson threw 5 1/3 innings in relief and allowed six runs (four earned) on 10 hits.

Post 11 returns to action today with a 7 p.m. contest at Snow Hill.

FRIDAY'S GAME

Edenton 11, Wayne County 10

Wayne County Post 11 rallied to score two runs in the ninth to take the lead, only to see it go for naught as Edenton scored twice in the bottom of the inning pull of an 11-10 win at Hicks Field on Friday night.

Post 11 fell to 2-5 in Area One East play and 4-6 overall. Edenton leads the league with a 6-0 record.

Edenton trailed 9-8 going into the eighth, and Wayne pitcher Ashton Langston retired the first two batter before an error kept the inning alive. A combination of events, including a wild pitch and two RBI singles put Wayne behind going into the ninth.

And it appeared that the visitors would go down quietly as Edenton reliever Broc Sutton set down the first two batters. John Wooten kept Post 11 alive with a single, and red-hot Jackson Massey was hit by a pitch. Walker Gourley then drew a base on balls on a full count.

Austin Hood hit a routine grounder to short for what should have been the final out. Instead, the ball was booted, and two runs scored to give Wayne the lead.

But it was short-lived. Langston walked leadoff batter Landon Jordan and gave up an opposite-field hit to Nick Brown down the first base line just inside the chalk to put runners on the corners. Reliever T.J. Hinson struck out the next batter.

Luke Williford grounded to second baseman Brad Wiggins, and he chose to make a tough throw to second. It was wild, and Brown went to third as Jordan scored.

After a fly ball out in centerfield, Hinson went 2-2 on Sutton before the left-handed batter poked an outside pitch down the third base line off the glove of Thomas Pilkington for the game-winning hit.

Each team had 23 runners, but Edenton benefited from five errors to score seven unearned runs.

Tyler Ham followed three straight walks in the Wayne third with a two-run double.

Massey homered in the sixth with one aboard to make it 7-6 Wayne before Edenton tied it on a double steal of home and second.
