SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee scored four times in the third inning to defeat Carolina 4-1 at Smokies Park on Wednesday night.

The Smokies (26-28) batted around in handing Manu Olivera (2-1) his first Double-A loss. Olivera walked three hitters after fanning the pitcher, then permitted an infield single to Jamie D'Antona, followed by a two-run single to center later in the inning by Jon Zeringue.

Carolina (26-28) dropped into a third-place tie with the Smokies after losing for the third time in four games in the series. The Mudcats also fell to 2-7 at Smokies Park.

The Mudcats' offense only managed five hits in the game, which was delayed 50 minutes from the original start time. Two of the five hits were consecutive to open the game, by Alejandro DeAza and Jamie Athas, however Carolina could only score one unearned run against Smokies starter Ross Ohlendorf (3-3) thanks to a throwing error by second baseman Danny Richar.

The Mudcats send Adam Bostick to the mound tonight to close the 10-game road trip at 7:15 p.m.

NOTES: Following Wednesday's game, the Florida Marlins purchased the contract of LHP Taylor Tankersley and added him to the 25-man roster. Tankersley, who threw a hitless eighth inning on Wednesday night against Tennessee, was notified of the move minutes after the 4-1 loss to the Smokies. Tankersley lowered his ERA to 0.95 after his outing, and leaves the Southern League having allowed one hit to his final 33 hitters. Tankersley was the Marlins' first round pick in the 2004 draft from the University of Alabama, and becomes the first Mudcat to reach Florida straight from Double-A in 2006. ... Eight different players were recalled from Carolina to Florida in 2005. ... The Mudcats begin a 10-game homestand on Friday night against the Mississippi Braves.
