K-Tribe wins again

FREDERICK, Md. -- Kevin Dixon picked up the first win of his Carolina League career, supported by the big bats of Kinston in a 10-3 victory over Frederick on Saturday night.

Dixon (1-0), called up on May 11 from Low-A Lake County, gave up three hits and two earned runs, while striking out four in five innings. Scott Roehl and Jesus Soto came in from the bullpen to secure the victory.

The K-Tribe bolted out of the gates with a two-run homer by Wyatt Toregas in the second inning. It was Toregas's third homer of the season and gave the K-Tribe a 2-0 lead.

Trevor Crowe continued to kill the Keys, as he led off the fifth inning with a triple. He later scored on a passed ball to make the score 3-0.

With the Indians up 4-2 after six innings, a four-run seventh inning put the game out of reach. The Tribe batted around as the Keys bullpen gave up five walks in the frame. RBI singles by Ryan Goleski and Jordan Brown where the only hits in the four-run inning.

Matt Whitney put the finishing touches on the game with a two run homer, his fifth of the year, in the top of the ninth inning.

The K-Tribe's record improved to a Carolina League best 29-12. Kinston has a record of 26-2 when they score first in the game.

Right hander Joe Ness will take the mound this afternoon at 2 p.m. for the Indians.

Friday's Game

Kinston 4, Frederick 3

Trevor Crowe's solo home run in the top of the fifth inning broke a 3-3 tie and turned out to be the game-winning run as Kinston beat Frederick 4-3 on Friday night.

Crowe also made two spectacular diving catches in center field, including one in the bottom of the ninth inning to save a run a preserve the 4-3 victory.

Crowe started the scoring in the first when he drew a two-out walk, stole second and then scored on Stephen Head's double to center field to give Kinston a 1-0 lead.

Down 3-1, the Indians would tie the game in the top of the fourth as Wyatt Toregas singled to right field to drive in Head and Ryan Goleski.

Chuck Lofgren (6-2) picked up his league leading sixth win of the season, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits, while striking out two. T.J. Burton picked up his fifth save of the season for the K-Tribe.
