Trojans' Carter named to ESPN All-Academic District 3 team

Mount Olive first baseman Josh Carter has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America District 3 Baseball College Division First Team, as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). As a first team honoree, Carter is eligible for All-America consideration. Carter's selection marks the second year in a row he has been named to the All-District First Team.

Carter, a junior from Goldsboro(Eastern Wayne HS), is majoring in exercise science and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.67. He was named the 2005-06 Mount Olive College Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and earned Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference All-Academic honors.

On the field, Carter, is a two-time All-CVAC first team selection and was named to the 2005 All-South Atlantic Region Second Team. He is batting .397 this season and ranks among the top 30 in the nation with 65 runs batted in. Carter, a CVAC Player of the Week winner in March, had a team-high 16-game hitting streak earlier this season.

Carter drove in six runs in Mount Olive's first-round win in this year's CVAC Baseball Tournament as the Trojans went on to win the tournament championship and an automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.

Mount Olive is ranked No. 27 in the Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 30 and No. 6 in the South Atlantic Region.

The Trojans will compete in the NCAA II South Atlantic Regional May 18-21. Site and pairings will be announced Sunday.

The Academic All-America Baseball Team will be announced May 30.
