K-Tribe sweeps twinbill

POTOMAC, Va. -- The K-Tribe swept a doubleheader from the Potomac Nationals on Tuesday night. Kinston won the opener 5-1, and took the nightcap 11-6.

The Indians started the big night off in the fourth inning of Game 1. With the bases loaded and one out in the inning, a Trevor Crowe ground ball to the second baseman was mishandled by shortstop Seth Bynum on the force attempt at second, allowing Micah Schilling and Argenis Reyes to score.

Michael Aubrey followed with a two-run double, scoring Crowe and Brian Finnegan making the score 4-0. A Stephen Head RBI single would add another run for the K-Tribe in the sixth.

Joe Ness (3-0) picked up his third win in his last four starts, going 52/3 innings, giving up three hits and one earned run, while striking out seven.

Reid Santos picked up the save.

In Game 2, the K-Tribe's bats kept banging out hits, with the Indians racing out to a 4-1 lead after two innings.

In the top of the third inning, the K-Tribe put the game away with seven runs off six hits, highlighted by a bases-loaded triple by Argenis Reyes. Twelve batters stepped up to the plate in the inning for the K-Tribe.

K-Tribe outfielder Brian Barton got a hit in both games, extended his hitting streak to 18 games.

Ryan Knippschild (1-0) picked up the win for the K-Tribe, pitching two innings of scoreless relief. T.J. Burton picked up his fifth save of the season.

The K-Tribe improves their record to 22-9, the best record in the Carolina League and 51/2 games ahead of second place Myrtle Beach in the Southern Division.

The K-Tribe has won five games in a row and is 7-3 in their last 10 games.

The two teams will meet again today at 7:05 p.m. with Scott Lewis going to the mound for the K-Tribe.
