SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. -- Two Carolina errors led to a pair of rain-soaked Tennessee runs in the last of the fourth as the Smokies defeated the Mudcats 2-0 at Smokies Park on Friday night.

Ryan Bear saw a routine grounder roll through his legs at first base to begin the Smokies' inning, then later in the frame Kevin Randel could not catch a throw from third baseman Lee Mitchell to allow the first run of the inning to score for the Smokies (6-10). Phil Avlas doubled home the second run, both unearned against Carolina starter Anibal Sanchez (1-2).

Adam Bass (2-1) earned the shutout victory, permitting just two hits and a walk over his five innings.

Heavy rains pushed through the region for a second time in the bottom of the fifth inning and after a 43-minute delay and additional rains coming, the game was made official.

Carolina has lost three straight and will lean on Adam Bostick (0-2, 3.29) to snap the skid on Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. against Tennessee's Gerrett Mock (1-2, 4.41).
