PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock tallied seven runs in the third on its way to an 11-6 win at home over Greene Central on Wednesday in non-conference action.

The Golden Falcons improved to 14-1 overall heading into Friday's cross-county, Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference battle at home against Southern Wayne.

Jackson Massey, Will Spence, K.C. Kartch and Bennett Jeffreys had two hits and two RBI each for the Golden Falcons, while Thomas Pilkington drove in two runs.

Michael Speedy and Will McLawhorn both slugged home runs for Greene Central.

Kartch (1-0) picked up his first career win for Aycock -- yielding five runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks in four innings of work. Massey pitched the final three innings in relief.

The Rams' William Brown got the loss in 11/3 innings of relief work.

Greene Central (8-4 overall) hosts Tarboro in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play on Friday.

David Smeltzer added one hit for Rosewood, which fell to 7-5 overall.

Dustin Sittig endured the loss on the mound for the Eagles -- yielding three runs (one earned) on two hits in four innings of work.

Robbie Jones and Justin Bagley paced Farmville at the plate, while Jordan Corbett got the win.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Kevin Prunest got the loss on the mound for the Gators, yielding nine runs on seven hits in three innings of work.

Josh Crumpler picked up the win for the Raiders, while Ryan Butler and Jamel McPhail paced Midway at the plate.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek's Shanna Gooding had two hits in the Gators' 5-4 win over Midway on Wednesday in non-conference play.

The win was Spring Creek's first of the season.

Jordan Coor and Vanity Brooks also had hits for the Gators, who travel to North Johnston on Wednesday.

Lorenda Brogden got the win on the mound, yielding five hits and three runs in seven innings. Brogden struck out two against no walks.

The Gators overcame seven errors in the win.

SNOW HILL -- Charles B. Aycock's Leigh Smith had three hits and an RBI as the Golden Falcons defeated Greene Central, 5-3 on Wednesday in non-conference action.

Rusti Talton added two hits for Aycock (8-6), while Jasmine Dobbin and Kandace Burroughs had key extra base hits.

Julia Lancaster picked up the win -- striking out nine against three walks and yielding three runs (two earned) on five hits.

Cassie Webb had two hits for the Rams and endured the loss.

Spring Creek

Wayne Country Day defeated Spring Creek, 7-2 at the Wayne Community College courts on Wednesday.

David Wilson, George Mayo, Luxman Srikantha, Fred Ha and Kevin Martel picked up singles wins for the Chargers, while the doubles combinations of Ross Wilson-David Wilson and Martel-Albert Cho finished off the win.

Spring Creek got its lone singles win from Cliff Wilson, while the doubles tandem of John Potts-Justin Smith claimed a doubles victory.

WCDS (10-1) hosts Kerr-Vance on Friday. The Gators travel to Rosewood today.

up EPC win

SNOW HILL -- North Lenoir prevailed in five of six singles matches and eased past North Pitt 7-2 in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference action on the Snow Hill Tennis Complex courts.

Second-seeded Steven O'Dell and fourth-seeded Taylor Holmes each needed a third-set tiebreaker to turn back their respective opponent. Teammates Alex Mills, Levin Jones and Steven Warren each collected a straight-set singles win. Mills did not lose a game.

Mills-Holmes and Jones-Ryan Kramer each triumphed in doubles.

On Wednesday, North Lenoir lost a 7-2 decision to Kinston.

O'Dell and Warren tallied the Hawks' lone wins in the non-conference contest.

North Lenoir (7-5) is the guest of Farmville Central on April 11.

Eastern Wayne's Samantha Frazer tallied a hat trick (three goals) for the second straight game as the Warriors defeated Southern Wayne, 6-0 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play on Wednesday.

Natalie Taylor, Kasie Edwards and Helen Baddour added one goal each for the Warriors (6-6-1 overall), who improved to 6-0 in the ECC. Taylor dished out two assists, while Deniz Almedar had one assist.

The shutout was Eastern Wayne's fifth in conference play as they have yielded just one goal in six league matches.

The Warriors host perennial power, Jacksonville, on Friday in a non-conference tilt.

Falcons-Bruins

finish tied

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock and Wilson Beddingfield finished in a 3-3 tie on Wednesday at the Golden Falcons' field.

Aycock's Amanda Schlaeppi tallied the lone goal of the first half, before the Bruins' Brittany Freason tied the game in the second half -- sending the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference contest into overtime.

Erin Medford tallied two goals on throw-ins for the Falcons in overtime, while Lindsey DeRatt posted both Beddingfield goals in the extra frame.

Aycock (3-9-1, 2-2-1 ECC) hosts Washington today in non-conference play.

Carolina match

SELMA -- North Johnston's Tyler Grady shot a 71 to claim medalist honors in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference match held at the Cardinal Country Club on Wednesday.

The Panthers finished with a team score of 315, while Spring Creek took second at 326 and Princeton claimed third at 332. Ayden-Grifton (336), Rosewood (364) and North Duplin (454) rounded out the team scoring.

Stephen Warren paced the Gators with a 77, while Pat Wilkens added a 78. Scott Boyette shot a 74 for the Bulldogs. Shane Ogburn (78) and Bradley Hill (89) led Rosewood. North Duplin's Jonathan Lewis shot 97 to pace North Duplin.

The next Carolina Conference match is slated for Monday at Walnut Creek Country Club.

CBA boys prevail

PIKEVILLE -- Eastern Wayne's Eugenia Baker triumphed in two individual events and participated on two winning relays during Tuesday afternoon's, three-team Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Baker captured the 100-meter dash in 12.95 seconds and posted a time of 26.93 in the 200 dash. She ran the anchor leg on the winning 800-meter relay squad, and ran the third leg on the 1,600 relay.

Eastern Wayne compiled 93 points, compared to 41 for host C.B. Aycock. Kinston amassed 39 points.

Richelle Butler emerged the shot put winner with a throw of 30 feet, 2 inches. Jenita Allen captured the discus (90-8), while Nicole Costen leapt a meet-winning distance of 28-5 in the long jump.

LaNiece Sims (100 hurdles) and Noelle Kelly (400 run) also picked up individual victories.

Kelly participated on the 800 and 1,600 relays along with Nikki Allen and Alysa Artis.

Jenita Allen, Cqanica Allen, Nikki Allen and Jazmine Middleton took the 00 relay in 54.3 seconds.

On the boys' side, Aycock's Daniel Pennington emerged the lone multiple winner with first-place efforts in the 400 (53.3 seconds) and high jump (5-8).

The Golden Falcons posted first-place finishes in 12 events, including the 400 and 1,600 relay, and edged the Warriors 89.5-82 in team competition. Kinston was third with 15.5 points.

Justin Pike (shot put), Khiry Reid (discus), Cameron George (pole vault), Spruce Lee (triple jump), Montez Ham (long jump), Carson Sasser (800 run), Cortez Gilbert (200) and Nick Frederick (3,200) each seized an individual win for C.B. Aycock.

"We are getting better every week," said C.B. Aycock coach Kevin Smith. "Our times are improving and we are starting to get some positive contributions from our younger kids."

Eastern Wayne won the 3,200 and 800 relays.

Will Edgerton and Jay Rose added two hits each for Aycock (13-1, 2-0 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference).

Bryant Hill picked up the win in six innings of work for the Falcons, who travel to Southern Wayne on Friday.
