Mount Olive tries to stay unbeaten as the Trojans play host to nationally 34th-ranked Shippensburg in a three-game non-conference NCAA II baseball series this weekend at Scarborough Field. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.

Mount Olive (4-0) swept a four-game series at home last weekend over Newberry, winning the first game 22-2, then rallying from behind in the sixth inning in two wins and coming back in the fifth inning game in the finale.

Justin Staatz (1-0) tossed a complete game and did not allow an earned run in seven innings pitched. Starter Ted Pelech (1-0) won the series opener, while Jesse Lancaster (1-0) and Donald Huff (1-0) both picked up wins in relief. Huff struck out the last five batters of the game and retired all eight batters he faced in his appearance.

At the plate, the Trojans hit .409 as a team, scoring 38 runs on 45 hits, 16 of which went for extra bases. Stephen Nordan (.643) and Josh Harrison (.625) both hit over .600 last weekend, while Erik Lovett hit .500 in four games.

Shippensburg (0-0) is opening its 2006 season at Mount Olive. The Red Raiders played last year's season opener at Mount Olive, winning three of four games.
