Mount Olive (4-0 overall, 1-0 CVAC) is coming off a come-from-behind 78-70 victory over Queens Tuesday in the Trojans' CVAC opener. Mount Olive erased nine-point deficits in both the first and second half before taking the lead for good with less than five minutes remaining.
Teneal Boone, who leads the Trojans with 16.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, tallied her second double-double in four games with 19 points and 10 rebounds Tuesday. Lenoir Community College transfer Ebony Green added 15 points and freshman Meaghan Vanderhorst scored eight of her career-high 13 points in the final six minutes of the game to spark the Trojans' final comeback.
Freshman Tomeka Prichard, who scored the game-winning basket with 6.3 seconds left in Mount Olive's 66-65 win over Virginia State on November 22, established a career high with 13 points against Queens. She also tallied six rebounds, five steals, four assists and three blocked shots.
Sophomore point guard Keona Corley is averaging 7.0 assists per game, thanks to back-to-back double-digit assists performances. After matching her own school record with 11 assists against Virginia State, she dished out 10 assists Tuesday against Queens.
Through four games, Mount Olive has a team shooting percentage of 49.0 percent, including a 35.0 shooting percentage from three-point range. The Trojans have shot at least 45.0 percent in each of their first four contests, including two games above 50.0 percent.
Limestone (1-4, 0-1) fell 73-64 at USC-Aiken Thursday. Melissa DeVore led the Saints with 21 points. Earlier this season, DeVore hit a buzzer-beater in Limestone's 72-71 victory over nationally 11th-ranked Bentley.
Mount Olive and Limestone played each other three times in a span of 11 days at the end of last season. The two teams split their two regular season contests and the Trojans defeated Limestone 77-59 in the first round of last year's CVAC Tournament.
Both regular season meetings went down to the wire.
At Gaffney, Limestone hit a three-pointer at the buzzer in regulation and won in overtime 76-67. The rematch was almost deja vu, but Limestone missed a three-pointer as time expired and Mount Olive held on for a 57-54 victory.
