WENDELL -- Faith Christian's Aaron Sladick dropped in 33 points in two games as the Conquerors emerged to win the eight-team Southeastern Tournament for the second-straight year over the weekend.

Sladick was named the tournament's MVP, while teammate T.J. Sasser garnered all-tournament honors.

On Saturday, Sasser led Faith with 17 points as Sladick (16 points), Josh Brannan (12 points) and John Spencer (10 points) each reached double-figures in the Conquerors' 69-56 win over Lee Christian of Sanford in the championship game.

On Friday, Sladick had 17, while Brannan had 11 as Faith (3-0) dropped Hilltop Christian of Raleigh 50-46.

The Conquerors return to action on Nov. 29 at home against Berrean Christian.

Eagles open

tourney with win

Wayne Christian's T.A. Brannan posted all 21 of his points in the first three quarters to lead the Eagles to a 51-41 win over Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Friday on the first day of the Inaugural Wayne Christian Invitational Tournament.

The Eagles took on Flora McDonald on Saturday night in the championship game. Information on Saturday's game was not available at press time.

Matt Davis added nine points for Wayne Christian, while Nick Wood had five assits and five steals.

Kenan falls

to East Carteret

BEAUFORT -- James Kenan suffered a 19-0 loss at East Carteret in the second round of the Class 1-AA (large school) N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.

The No. 6 seed Tigers, which had won nine of their last 10 games, finished the season at 9-4 overall after a second-place finish in the Super Six Conference. The No. 3 seed Mariners (12-0) host No. 2 North Johnston (13-0) in a battle of unbeatens in the third round next Friday.

Warriors drop

Jacksonville

Eastern Wayne's Jazmine Middleton had 13 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in the Warriors' 35-25 win at home over Jacksonville on Thursday.

Briana Williams added 11 points for Eastern Wayne (1-0).

9th grade boys

Cougars now

1-1 overall

Goldsboro's Donzel Crawford had 10 points in the Cougars' 80-40 loss to Fayetteville E.E. Smith on Saturday.

On Friday, Goldsboro defeated Charles B. Aycock 63-45 in its season opener at home. Crawford (14 points) and Tyquan Sprangle (13 points) led the way for the Cougars on Friday.

Wiggins inducted

into Hall of Fame

Guilford College has inducted five former student-athletes, including Godsboro native Walt Wiggins, into its Athletics Hall of Fame.

The group was honored prior to the start of the Quakers' football game vs. Randolph-Macon.

Wiggins, a 1993 Goldsboro Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, started four years as a guard on Guilford's football team and also competed with the track and field squad. He was a football co-captain his senior year and earned honorable mention Little School All-America recognition that season. After college, Wiggins coached scholastic football, most notably at Rocky Mount Senior High, where he guided six teams to conference crowns in 13 seasons. He later served as Rocky Mount City Schools' athletic director and was named the 1986-87 Athletic Director of the Year for Region Three.

At Goldsboro, Wiggins starred in three sports at Goldsboro High School and was a three-year starter in football. After retiring in 1995, he entered politics and served as a member of Rocky Mount's City Council, including a year as Mayor ProTem. After eight years in office, Wiggins retired again and currently enjoys playing golf.
