He played at Lenoir-Rhyne College and eventually served in the Marine Corps. Reid works with N.C. Corrections and resides with his family in Creedmoor.

The Eagles emerged state runner-up in football and basketball during Lucas' sophomore year (1974). He played on the junior varsity basketball team at UNC Chapel Hill. Lucas is a counselor and basketball coach at Stone Bridge (Va.) High School.
