JV football - Saints' Casper amasses 330-yard game against C.B. Aycock

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne piled up 556 yards of total offense and rolled past county rival Charles B. Aycock 50-22 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference finale for both teams Thursday.

Kenny Casper rambled for season- and area-high 330 yards and three touchdowns on runs of 70, 22 and 39 yards. Backfield mate Kelvin Flow contributed 134 yards and two touchdowns on runs of 29 and 3 yards. Flow also caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Ren Dewitt.

Tristan Bass added 55 yards rushing, while Dewitt completed two passes for 61 yards.

Louis Santos emerged the Saints' top defender with nine solo tackles and two assists. Daquan Cozart provided nine tackles. Adrian Amerson collected eight tackles and one sack. Scott Holloman recorded five tackles.

Deonte Thomas recovered a fumble and Raymond Velasquez picked off a Golden Falcon pass.

Southern Wayne finished 6-4 overall and 2-3 in ECC play.

"It was a very hard-working team and I was proud of their efforts all year long," said head coach Trae McKee.

Eastern Wayne

blitzes Kinston

KINSTON -- Eric Brofft rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns in Eastern Wayne's season-ending 46-22 romp over Kinston in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play Thursday.

Orlando Midgette complemented Brofft's effort with 79 yards on seven carries. Stacey Edwards finished with 29 yards and a touchdown on four totes. Malcolm Edwards added a 25-yard touchdown run.

Anthony Williams paced the Warrior defense with 13 tackles, a fumble hit and fumble recovery. Brandon Darby recorded two sacks.

Foy Coley blocked a punt which T.J. Head picked up and returned 25 yards for a touchdown.

Eastern Wayne wound up 7-3 overall and 3-2 against ECC opposition.

Middle schools

Eastern Wayne football d. Rosewood 54-0 -- Eastern Wayne finished the season unbeaten and unscored upon en route to the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I championship. Will White and Leon Grantham led the Warrior defense with 10 tackles each, while Dominique Sadler (eight tackles) returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown. Lamar Best provided seven stops. Linwood Grantham emerged the top rusher with 107 yards and two touchdowns. White contributed 101 yards and two touchdowns. Sadler also snagged a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jonathan Carter.

Dillard football d. Mount Olive 40-0 -- Braddock Gross and Ahad Hardy each rushed for two touchdowns in the Tigers' season-ending victory. Owen Davis added a 75-yard touchdown run. Eighth-grader Chris Suggs picked off two Mount Olive passes. Dillard finished 4-4 overall and 3-1 in WCMSAC Division II play.

Eastern Wayne soccer 10, Rosewood 0 -- Eastern Wayne finished unbeaten and claimed the WCMSAC championship. Leslie Cox tallied four goals for the Warriors, who concluded play 11-0-1. Eric Suncin added two goals and three assists. Sang Kim provided two goals. Jose Ponce (three assists) and Nick Baker each scored one goal. Joseph Chaney had two assists. Rosewood ended the year 5-5.

Goldsboro football d. Spring Creek 48-20 -- Goldsboro (6-2) seized the WCMSAC Division II title with a perfect 4-0 worksheet. Teonis Cox led all rushers with 265 yards and four touchdowns. Matthew Woodard threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Tyquan Singleton. Deonte Linder returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. Freddie Jones also contributed a touchdown. Cox, Linder and Shelando McBride led the defense.

Norwayne football d. Grantham 36-6 -- Norwayne finished tied for second in WCMSAC Division II play. Tyheim Pitt rushed for two 50-yard touchdowns. Marcus Cobb and Malcolm Bynum each returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown. Brandon Purdie recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD. Pitt, Stevie Mitts, Brian Smith, Marcus Cobb and Ryan Godwin played well defensively.
