Due to Monday's steady rain, several area soccer games were rescheduled.
The semifinals of the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference tournament -- Eastern Wayne vs. Wilson Hunt (5 p.m.) and Wilson Beddingfield vs. Charles B. Aycock (7 p.m.) -- were moved to today at the same times. The championship will still be played Wednesday at 7 p.m. All matches are at Eastern Wayne High School.
In Class 1-A Carolina Conference action, the Ayden-Grifton-Spring Creek match-up will be played today at 7 p.m. in Seven Springs, while North Johnston at Rosewood will be Thursday at 6 p.m.
Middle schools
Norwayne volleyball d. Mount Olive 20-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-10 -- Beth Carter, Megan Wonders, Miranda Aycock and Autumn Pittman led the Cobras from the service line. Norwayne (13-0) clinched at least a share of the conference championship heading into Thursday's game at one-loss Eastern Wayne.
Grantham volleyball d. Greenwood 25-21, 25-21, 25-17 -- Alex Thames, Lindsey Mathias, Chelsea Emery and Hannah Grantham led Grantham from the service line. Greenwood was paced by Rebecca Moye. Grantham completed the season at 5-7 overall.
Correction
In Sunday's edition, it was incorrectly reported that Cortez Gilbert was the first player from Charles B. Aycock to make the North Carolina Shrine Bowl roster. In 1981, Aycock graduate Ken Grantham made the team.
The News-Argus regrets the error.
