Kenan crushes Hobbton

NEWTON GROVE -- Longtime conference rivals Hobbton and James Kenan have fashioned some classic meetings over the past few years, but videotape from Friday's contest might get packed away -- and hopefully forgotten if you're a Wildcat follower.
James Kenan routed Hobbton 40-3 in Class 1-A Super Six action and remained tied with state-ranked Wallace-Rose Hill for the league lead at 3-0. The Bulldogs, winners of 23 straight conference games, prevailed 42-14 at Union.
"We played hard (and) got some breaks here and there," said third-year James Kenan coach Kevin Motsinger. "We just keep getting a little bit better, but we've got a long way to go."
Stedman Mathis rambled for three touchdowns and emerged the Tigers' second-leading rusher with 51 yards on eight totes. Brandon Satchell finished with 57 yards on 11 carries, while Ronnie Williams added 56 yards and a touchdown on 10 tries. Alex Nickerson provided 45 yards on five carries.
Overall, James Kenan (7-2, 2-1 Super Six) amassed 295 yards of total offense.
Defensively, Reco Peterson recorded six tackles and one assist. Akeem Faison contributed five tackles and six assists, while Marcus Sloan notched four tackles and two assists.
Shermaine Matthews chipped in four tackles, four assists and one sack. Antwan Brown deflected three passes and picked off one pass to go along with one tackle and one assist.
James Kenan entertains Union next Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Bill Taylor Field.
