Wayne Country Day's Sam Steed tallied a hat trick (three goals) as the Chargers defeated Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 3-1 at home on Friday.

Steed scored four minutes into the first half on an assist by Jeff Franklin, before Faith equalized 24 minutes later on a goal by Aaron Fly to complete the first-half scoring.

The score remained tied until the 70th minute as Steed scored on a direct kick from nearly 30 yards out, then posted his final goal five minues later to push the score to its final margin.

WCDS (11-5-1 overall) improved to 4-3-1 in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference heading into Monday's game at home against Kerr-Vance.

Hawks in OT

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central scored late in regulation to tie the game, then put the game away in overtime to claim a 2-1 win at home over North Lenoir.

Alex McGauhey tallied the Hawks' lone goal with 10 minutes left in the first half.

No further information was provided on the match.

North Lenoir (7-7-1 overall) dropped to 3-2 heading into Monday's match at home against Tarboro. The Rams (9-3-1) will take a 4-1 EPC mark into Monday's match in Snow Hill with Farmville Central.

Faith-RM

Wayne Country Day's Ashley Clark had eight kills, six assists and four aces in the Chargers' 25-22, 25-20, 25-13 win at home over Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Sammy Schurhammer added six kills and three aces for WCDS (8-12 overall, 4-8 Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference). Stephanie Knutson notched five digs and three kills for the Chargers, who host Rocky Mount Prep on Tuesday.

Princeton tops

rival Rosewood

Rosewood's Ashley Williams finished with three kills and three digs in the Eagles' 25-17, 25-14 loss at home to Princeton on Monday.

Caroline Tart added two digs and two aces for Rosewood, which concluded the season at 3-15 overall and 1-9 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play.

DUDLEY -- Charles B. Aycock finished the season at 12-2 overall and 7-2 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference with a 25-22, 25-17 win at Southern Wayne on Thursday.

The game was the regular season finale for both teams.

Eastern Wayne

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne's Orlando Midgette had 79 yards on the ground in the Warriors' 13-0 loss at Wilson Hunt on Thursday.

Eastern Wayne's Eric Brofft added 41 yards on the ground, while David White was 4-of-10 passing for 53 yards.

Defensively, Nolan Lancaster led the way for the Warriors with 11 tackles as teammates John Miller and Laquan Pearsall added seven tackles each. Midgette contributed five tackles and a sack.

The score was tied 0-0 at halftime, before Hunt (6-1, 2-0 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) successfully used its ground game to post two scores after intermission.

Eastern Wayne (5-2, 1-1 ECC) travels to Wilson Beddingfield next Thursday, while Hunt takes on Charles B. Aycock in Pikeville.

Saints suffer

WILSON -- Southern Wayne's Kenny Casper rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints' 38-30 loss at Wilson Beddingfield on Thursday.

The loss drops Southern Wayne (4-3 overall) to 0-2 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference heading into next Thursday's contest at Kinston.

Kevin Flow rushed for 150 yards on 26 carries for the Saints, while Ren Dewitt was 3-for-10 passing with touchdown passes to Louis Santos and Alex Aldridge.

Daquan Cozart led Southern Wayne's defense with six tackles, a pass deflection, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and one sack. Adrian Amerson and Aldridge added six tackles each.

Middle schools

Eastern Wayne football 26, Greenwood 0 -- Eastern Wayne's Linwood Grantham rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns, while teammate Will White added 121 yards and a touchdown. Jonathan Midjette posted a 65-yard touchdown run for the Warriors (5-0 overall). White, Midjette, Dominique Sadler, A.B. Scott, Mack Stover had six tackles each for Eastern Wayne, while Lamar Best picked off one pass. The Warriors host Goldsboro on Thursday.

Eastern Wayne soccer 11, Greenwood 0 -- Eastern Wayne's Eric Suncin had two goals and two assists as teammate Leslie Cox added two goals. Jose Ponce (1 goal, 3 assists), Sang Kim (1 goal, 1 assist), Alex Henson (1 goal, 1 assist), Alex Lloyd (1 goal), Nick Baker (1 assist), Nick Bowden (1 goal, 2 asssits), Collin Hobbs (1 goal) and Richard Johnson (1 goal) all contributed to the Warriors' effort. Eastern Wayne (7-0-1) travels to Mount Olive on Monday, while Greenwood (5-2) takes on Spring Creek in Seven Springs.
